http://news.com.com/Net+taxes+could+arrive+by+this+fall/2100-1028_3-6186193.html?tag=nefd.lede

I know you guys may feel differently, but I have been at my wit's end trying to comprehend how the states were going to survive much longer without my taxes on internet purchases. I mean, they are all so poor and have more financial commitments than they can get revenue to cover, and I make more than any human should ever be allowed to make. So why can't I just send every state in the country a bundle of cash? Well, they make it way too difficult to do that. They would rather rip it out of my hands against my will when I try to buy stuff in their jurisdictions - but not even that is good enough. I want to pay more!

So, if the new congress can get their act together and pass an internet tax bill I can rest assured that every time I buy something from anyone on the web, not only will be state government have guarantees that a sales tax will be levied, but the company I buy from could be taxed locally as well.

You want to sell me something online, you'll have to figure out how to pay those taxes as well - or face criminal prosecution for tax evasion (by far the worse and most cruel form of punishment known to any American).

So, thank the Lord we have this to look forward too! If we are lucky, this will not only boost the tax revenues for each of our respective state legislatures, but the local overprices businesses may get a boost from people realizing there is no benefit to buying online when the new taxes will drive the online prices higher than the local prices - when you consider shipping this is likely.

Woo-hoo!!! Maybe my local government can finally make enough money to install more traffic lights, red light cameras, and afford the lawyers to condemn more private land for new shopping centers and car dealerships near my house.

After all, I make too much money as it is, which just isn't fair at all. The 40% tax burden I currently carry for all the nation's working poor just isn't enough to make any difference at all. I should be paying at least 50% of my income to cover the costs of caring for all the others who don't have rich daddies like mine who assured me great success without any hard work on my part. I just fell into this lifestyle and don't deserve any of it.

Do you really pay 40% of your income to the government?  Roughly, about what is the split between local and federal governments?  Does that count sales tax?

Just curious, I haven't really had any money yet to pay towards taxes.

Tax burden (as a %age of income) varies by income level and locality. The national average is about 33%, roughly 2/3rds of that Federal and 1/3rd state/local.

Income taxes are just a part of the taxes paid. Don't forget other ones such as sales tax, excise taxes, fuel taxes, property taxes, etc. etc. that also take up a portion of what you earn. They add considerably to the 28% to 33% income tax liability

Tax his land, tax his wage,
Tax his bed in which he lays.
Tax his tractor, tax his mule,
Teach him taxes is the rule.

Tax his cow, tax his goat,
Tax his pants, tax his coat.
Tax his ties, tax his shirts,
Tax his work, tax his dirt.

Tax his chew, tax his smoke,
Teach him taxes are no joke.
Tax his car, tax his grass,
Tax the roads he must pass.

Tax his food, tax his drink,
Tax him if he tries to think.
Tax his sodas, tax his beers,
If he cries, tax his tears.

Tax his bills, tax his gas,
Tax his notes, tax his cash.
Tax him good and let him know
That after taxes, he has no dough.

If he hollers, tax him more,
Tax him until he's good and sore.
Tax his coffin, tax his grave,
Tax the sod in which he lays.

Put these words upon his tomb,
"Taxes drove me to my doom!"
And when he's gone, we won't relax,
We'll still be after the inheritance tax.

Don't forget the lottery.

That's a tax in disguise that many voluntarily pay.

Could be the same thing that has happened here in NZ.

The country has over time incrementally been taken over completly by a bloated bureauocratic mafioso type organisation that's peopled by a revolving door of liars, crooks and assorted low lifes, that I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire; who are masquerading as a government of the people

Even if that list of taxes in the US was only halfway complete it would pale in comparison to a list of taxes in a land where even the taxes are taxed.

You can't even get a leg over a hooker anymore without paying tax, the bastards legalised it so they could tax it.

When the Sixteenth Amendment was passed by Congress in 1909, it faced a most formidable ratification process.  Considerable opposition was forming in the states because of the opinion held by many of the electorate that a direct tax on personal income was an abomination.

To overcome that opposition, the amendment's proponents reassured the electorate that the tax would be imposed only on the incomes of the wealthy.  Subsequently, the amendment received enough state support to win ratification in 1912.

Of course, it's defenders lied.  It's impact is felt by every family that earns income above the poverty level...to one degree or another.

The tax is still an abomination.
