Joystick Problems
« on: June 07, 2007, 01:23:30 PM »
I have a “Logitech Extreme 3D Pro” joystick and on Monday June 4th some of the buttons seemed to stick or stop functioning completely (i.e. the button programmed to bring up the clipboard would only maximize the clip board but not minimize it, squeezing the trigger would fire the guns but the guns kept firing even after I stopped squeezing the trigger, and the button programmed for zoom would cause the screen to flicker as if it were trying to zoom in but ultimately didn’t).

I checked to see if the joystick was plugged in properly, I tried recalibrating the joystick through AH, and I tried rebooting the computer. Since nothing worked, I just assumed the joystick simply got worn out from years of use so I went to the store and bought another one (exact same type). This seemed to solve the problem, until June 7th when the exact same thing occurred with the new joystick (the same problems with the same buttons). So obviously the problem is not the joystick, but I can’t figure out what it is. Any advice?

My logitech started malfunctioning after a month. It wasn't a button problem though, so I suffered through it.

Just don't buy that brand, ever.

Simple answer is don't buy logitech joysticks.

I used to be a big logitech mouse & keyboard fan but I won't even buy those  anymore.  Labtec for peripherals, Saitek for sticks. Logitech has major quality control problems.

Thanks for the advice. I found the receipt for the Logitech and exchanged it for a Saitech. It will probaly take some getting used to but as long as it works I'm happy.

It's wried because I never had any problems with the Logitech joystick until I started playing AH but after just a few weeks of AH, all other flight sims seem to be thoroughly obsolete ;)

The problems existed with the stick. You might not have noticed them.

My old Wingman gave me troubles well before I ever flew Aces High. In older flight sims it would be off-center almost always, be almost impossible to fine-tune aim because of spiking, and so forth.

I noticed many times when I calibrated and was playing around, that it was almost impossible to get a smooth input on the crosshair in the test window, and to keep it easily in place.

You might not have noticed it, but I'm betting it was doing this before.

If not, well you got a rare one that lasted a while before dying. Probably won't happen again (as you saw your new replacement started going bad immediately!). Enjoy the times you had with it, but never go back.
