Cell phone B.S.
« on: May 28, 2007, 12:53:17 PM »
I have Verizon, I like the service, at least with regards to coverage, reception, and reliability. However, yesterday, the race cra ate my cell phone, a belived and trusted old Nokia "bar type". I found a replacement online (not at Verizon, but at Amazon) that shows it works with Verizon, but after typing in my zip code, it shows Verizon in my area doesn't work with that phone. I've had that old phone for years, and I'd sure like to have one similar to replace it, like the Nokai 6015i. Anyone know any ways around the stupid B.S. about it not working in my area?

Get the ESN number from the phone and call Verizon... that's the best way to check.

I am thinking that you had a TDMA phone.  The cell phone companies have moved to GSM.  I BET you had TDMA coverage, but not GSM.  I would indeed call your provider and figure it out.  They will have record if you were using TDMA or GSM, and can help you figure out if they have coverage.

I have verizon also I had an excellent motorola camera phone which I placed in my shirt pocket then promptly grabbed a gaff to gaff a sailfish with the predictable result.  I did the same thing you did and bought another with the same result.  the following day I went to the verizon store.  one hour later I walked out yakking and taking photos again.

If you call the national number, you might even score a free phone.  I've gotten 2 free phones out of sprint in the past...  Yea I bought the original ones from the local sprint store, but if the phone ever dies I'm gonna call the natl sprint number and see what they can do for me as a long-term customer.  That often results in the promo offer of the month (whatever it happens to be at the time) ending up on your doorstep a couple days later.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

Looks like I'll pick up a phone elsewhere, and get Verizon to activate it. I'll just be without one for a few days. I'm just not getting a stupid "flip phone" with all the crap on it that I don't want.
