What is a good system for running AH

I recently got a new PC and have had nothing but problems. It's an HP running Vista home premium with an AMD dual core. The problems were(or are) with the Vista software itself(it constantly crashes) I went through Tech support for hours to no avail. I bought an extended "no questions asked" service plan and am returning it.
     
My Questions are

 should I go with Intel based processors?

 I would love to avoid Vista....but it seems nearly impossible, Is there another option?

What brand's should I be weary of?


 I Downloaded AH on the new computer and it Ran very well....for a very short time and then froze...I got the "spinning clipboard" too. I ran it in the compatability mode windows 95/me(you know the one) and it didn't seem to work. It has all been a headache and I just wanna get rid of the thing. Not to mention the darn thing won't even boot up anymore. Just looking for insight on what I should look for.

  Keep in mind I'm not buying the computer just for AH sake, that is just one use that I really enjoy. I figure if it can run the game at a high rate it should be able to handle alot of other things well. My old PC is an HP 753n from way back and has performed amazing...it has just kind of fallen apart over time and it's limited powersupply prevents it from being upgraded to higher standards(that and my speaker port is shot and the cd writer is hashed) I just want a good strong RELIABLE system.

   This may be the wrong forum, and if it is I apologize, but I need support from Technical people....just seemed like a good place to start.

I am running an AMD dual core as well.  I have had nothing but good experiences with AMD in the past but they are just not as powerful as Intel now.  As far as the spinning clipboard, install the AMD dual core optimizer patch and it should clear that up. It did for me at least.  I ran AH on vista for about 3 month with no problem then everything went T.U. with the new patch.  I had warping, freezes, etc.  I tried everything and eventually had to set up dual boot with XP pro x64.  Now it runs beautifully.  Try some websites like newegg or tigerdirect, XP is REALLY cheap now, especially the OEM versions.

I thought that was XP only?

Anyways, if Vista was crashing on its own it could be a lot of things wrong with Vista itself.


My opinion: Reformat and reinstall XP instead. That's only my opinion, though. You might also fix the crashing if you reinstall Vista again.

Thanks for the replies. In a stroke of luck I managed to get my hands on an new computer with a dual core processor and windows xp. Basically I got what I wanted....now to see if it will run well.
