Having read elsewhere a thread discussing spiking, Skuzzy recommended a powered USB hub...so I grabbed one for myself.

While my X52 has never really spiked, it sometimes feels erratic or mushy. When I plugged the stick into the powered hub, it DID start spiking. What's with that?

Max,
Did you try plugging your powered hub into a different USB port on your box?  Also are your other USB devices plugged into the hub or the ports on your box?  These could be a possible source of the problem.

My laptop has 4 USB inputs, I've tried all 4. When I was using the power hub I only used the USB connect from the X52 stick/throttle and peds on the power hub. I've also tried using only my printer via the power hub to see if that was connecting properly. It was.

The issue has gone on to become even a bit more bizarre...now when I try connecting the Saitek, it goes through a continous on/off cycle via Windows...ie, the stick lights up and is seen, then lights out and unseen.

I spoke with Pyro yesterday and he was stumped. Something tells me it's one of those bizarre issues that Saitek always manages to throw at you, one way or another.

For now I'm running an old MS Sidewinder Prec 2 along with my Saitek throttle via unpowered USB jacks and things seem to be OK that way.

Guess it would have paid to listen to all those folks who say "buy CH gear and you won't go wrong."

I know it will sound like a stupid question, but is the power for sure plugged into your USB hub?

The reason I ask is that I have a powered USB hub.  At one point, my stick started being jittery.  I checked the power jack on the USB hub and found that, while it really looked like it was plugged in and even though I firmly pushed on it to insert it, it actually was not fully plugged in.  The case didn't fit quite right, so - I had to push down and in to warp the case a little to give the plug enough room to go in all the way.

One thing that helped was that my USB hub has an LED that lights up when the external power is going and goes off if the external power is not.  Maybe not all powered USB hubs have that, though.
