Well my Mic port on my Asus A8NVX- deluxe went bad.....

mic stoped working so i figure it was dead and got a new mic!  turns out mic was fine and so was new mic, but the mic post on the mobo went bad.
Tried reinstalling drivers and everything else i and others could think of.....

So its time to buy a new PCI sound card to get me thru.

Anyone got suggestions with out spending $100 on a  SBxfi xtreme gamer?

An SB Audigy2 class card will suffice. I've been on Audigy1 generation for some time.

Hell even a PCI 128 SoundBlaster16 will do.

You can take input from the card and keep the sound going through your mobo, if you like.

Another thing to consider is the plug itself. If you're using a rear port see if you can hook up a front panel. Or if you're using the front panel plug the mic into the rear of the case.

Depending on the setup (I don't know about your mobo) you might be able to plug the mic in anywhere, and it will detect what has been plugged in. You might simply plug the mic into one of the unused surround sound channels and it could work. (it depends)

My wifes computer is almost 5 now, been running a SB pci128 in it since it was put together. Great sound, zero problems (unlike sb live) Reasonably priced card with good output.

Went to the pci512 for my current computer and its even better. At less than half the cost of an audigy, etc. Partly depends on what you want out of it.

As long as you're still running Windows XP, any of the Soundblaster cards work wonders.  Creative has always been really bad on drivers, they still have problems with the nForce 4 chipset on motherboards and have bad Vista support at the moment.

If you're an audiophile, I'd look at any of the Audigy ZS2 or X-FI cards, 24bit sampling makes a difference.

Otherwise, if you mainly use it for Aces High and just the mic, any Soundblaster card in your budget will do fine.

So i  found a place on the web that does alot of Front panel specialty items
called ....

http://www.frontX.com

to get the correct cable i need (not easy yo find alota places)

On-board audio will cost you a couple frames here and there.  They have a nasty habit of using the CPU to do sound-related things that peripheral cards do on-board.

Come to think of it, on-board (almost) anything costs frames.  I use on-board ether, though.
