Being the dive-bomber it is, it'll also scrap out the SBD because of:

Higher speed
Bigger payload
More payload (rockets)
Better armament (20mm's)

So one plane will replace 2 of our planes! Not a good idea IMO

Not that the naval fighters are more capable than the sbd or anything...

Tough to fly, poorly designed, and delivered too slowly, the Curtiss SB2C comes somewhere near the top of most lists of "Worst Aircraft of World War Two."

The litany of faults that the Helldiver bore included the fact that it was underpowered, had a shorter range than the SBD, was equipped with an unreliable electrical system and was often poorly manufactured.

the SB2C’s were responsible for more ship tonnage sunk during WWII than any other aircraft.

Will it render the SBD obsolete? I think not:

Quote
This large, heavy, impressive and powerful dive-bomber was intended as an improvement on the SBD Dauntless, which it was to replace.  However, during ithe SB2C's development it became apparent that there were serious problems with its design.  Combat experience,  especially at the Battle of the Philippine Sea, revealed that the Dauntless was in fact the superior aircraft. The Helldiver's handling was poor - in particular it had unsatisfactory low-speed stability, and dangerously poor stalling characteristics.  It was also unstable in a high-speed dive, and therefore a less accurate bomber than the SBD. Since dive-bombing was the aircraft's raison d'etre, this fault alone was enough to make the SB2C an unacceptable replacement for the Dauntless.   However, it was at this stage impossible to reverse the changeover to the Helldiver, and the Philippine Sea battle was the SBD's last major action as a carrier aircraft.

I still like to see it though

I don't mean to be an stunninghunk... but we really don't need another suicide dive-bomber.

That's all this aircraft would become.... some twit would up it and suicide dive-bomb CVs etc.

Vote Me 410!

The SB2C was being phased out of carrier service in 1945 because the powers that be finally realized that the Hellcat and Corsair could do anything it could do, and do it better and faster.

It may have sunk more tonnage of shipping than any other Naval aircraft....but it was a dog.  It's nickname "The Beast" was not given to it as a compliment.
