Best time to fly in the AvA?
« on: June 12, 2007, 05:49:59 PM »
Hello all   I love the AvA but hardly ever get in there because it's quite often unpopulated during the times I log in.  I'm just curious, when are the best times (eastern stadard time) to fly in the AvA?

Best time to fly in the AvA?

Every week is a bit different, depending on the map and setup.

Pick a time to show up.  anywhere from 7pm EST to Midnite.

I guarantee, if anybody sees one person in the AvA, others will come looking.

If nobody is there when you get there, look the current map over, find what 2 bases are reasonably close together.  Up a bird from whichever side you feel like flyin at that time, and check out the fuel burn, etc.

If nobody else is there, and a Jabo bird is in the setup, I go looking for trains or convoys, for the fun of it, and have always had somebody come hunt me before I RTB.

I don't go porkin bases, or doing things that throw off the Arena, but if nobody is there, I get at least a 10 or 15 minute ride huntin trains or truck convoys, if the Map Has em.  and usually, if I don't pay attention, get jumped while doing so.

Fun is what ya make of it.  If nobody else is there, ask a couple of buddies that are tired of the MA spit16/la7/p51 etc drag race, if they are interested in a restricted planeset.

Maybe this week, the AvA is featuring a Bird they really really want to try  out, but won't, because they can't suvive in the MA with it.

This Week, (and it changes weekly) I'm Havin a Ball, Flyin a C.202, armed with 2 ea 12.7 MM [.50 cal] against anything the Allied side can up.  ( Spit 5 or 9, P40E, P38G, and that dang Hurrie 2C . )  Note, I did not say I was winnin the fights, only that I was havin a BALL, tryin like heck to win em.

The biggest secret involved with the AvA, is if somebody hands yer butt to ya on a platter, don't cry an ***** about it, or rampage all over chan 200, Ask em what they did right, and you did wrong.  I HAVE NEVER HAD A FELLOW FLYER, IN THE AvA, if I asked them what happened, in a reasonable tone, EVER NOT TELL ME WHAT THEY DID, IN RESPONSE TO WHAT THEY SAW ME DOING. And I have learned from it.

I get shot down a lot, tryin different things.  Yet when another Player, within the Ava, tells me they are wipin the sweat off their foreheads, gettin cricks in there necks from lookin for me, then I get a warm glow inside, knowing that for however long it lasted, I had that one players full attention, and he was sweatin me gettin the upper hand.

I hope you come to enjoy your time in the AvA, and Hope you bring a few friends with you.  We try to have some standards, we try hard to live up to em, but most of us are Human, and mess up, once in a while.  So if you think you got HO'd, or Vultched, well, ask.  It ain't always what the other player saw on HIS PC MONITOR.  If you can get past that fixation, that the other guy was cheating, playing the gamers play, I guarentee you will enjoy the AvA.

A very good post indeed Jaekart,  I'd add that more so than the MA the AvA gives back what you put into it.  Go in there with a good attitude and you will find it returned ten fold.  The wrong attitude and there will not be much fun to be had.  The community is relatively small so the actions and attitudes of each member is more keenly felt by the group as a whole.

It's amazing how quickly you can log on to see 1-2 people but after a short while the numbers start growing and pretty soon there's a good brawl going.  Tuesdays and Thursdays seem to be the night that most people focus on and the times I've seen mentioned above are pretty much in line with what I've seen.

Seems to be a bit of a resurgence lately, feels like a bit of a home coming for me, I used to fly the AvA a lot back when it was the Combat Theater and spent some time on the staff.  When you log on type in ".f Soulyss" into the text buffer and it will tell you if I'm online.  Send me a PM and if I'm not in the middle of something with the squaddies I'll head over to the AvA and we'll see if we can get a fight started.

Thanks for the responses.  Been in the AvA many times since coming over to AH from WB 2 years ago, I just usually don't get on till after midnight EST and the arena is usually empty by then.  I'll definatly be trying to get on earlier alot more.  Was in there yesterday and had some good clean fights with a guy I remember from WB.  Thanks again for the responses and I hope to see alot more of the AvA.  Now if only the rest of the community would just see the light :D

Thanks to all of you, that see My post as a positive one.  When I first subscribed to AH, it was to fly in the old Combat Theatre.  That was where I wanted to Fly and learn and have fun.  That was where I had looked into the BBS, and decided I belonged.  Now, six years later, that has not changed one bit.

I do go fly in the MA, once in a while, but the AvA is where My heart resides.

I really do hope that I can get off my graveyard shift soon, so that I am able to come in on the Tuesday-Thursday nights.  I was able to show up this past Tuesday, and enjoyed finding the fights, enjoyed most of the players asking, " Hey, lets take this fight out of the field ack, and meet between the fields, where the Dot Dar and Ack were not effective."  It happened.  I flew with and against a lot of old squaddies, and a few newer to the AvA that probably don't know me.

A plus for the AvA, that I see happening, is that Squads are participating, helping to put players in the arena, and are flying both sides of the conflict, instead of all staying on one side, as we did in the past.

Then, it was ok.  I well remember the days that VF-27 came in strong and hard, and went against all comers.  Squad Nights in the CT were Mega then, with 4, 5, 8, or 10 squads showing up, with numbers in the 100's.  It was the place to be, the place to play, adrenalin flowing, going all out.

Sadly, somehow, without knowing how, the arena became a mini MA.  It slid downhill, and became a ghost-town.

To My joy, it seems it may be turning around, with the effort of the CM Teams, and those that have decided to quit argueing over trivial things, and just show up and enjoy what the AvA started out to be, way back when it was the CT.

To Me, the Attraction of the AvA is not and has never been, that it is an Arena ruled by a Single Squad.  Sometimes Our Squad did it right, (VF-27), and we owned the CT, for a short time.  Other times, another Squad figured out our tactics and handed us our behinds on a platter.  I found commaraderie, friendship, and fun, within the CT, now known as the AvA.

I Salute the efforts of the CM's, that give us a weekly changing Map and setup.

I Salute the Squads that come in, and fly both sides, without hesitation, to even the numbers.

I Salute the Players, that have hung on, and do what they can, to promote this fabulous Arena, and have decided to put childish behavior where it belongs, on channel 200 in the MA.

Most of My time, currently is limited to the morning hours, CST, when I get off work.  That's ok, since I find a few of our European Players on at that time.  Platano for one.  I well remember the days, when it was only 2 or 3 of us, and Plat asking if I was in that Dang Hurry 1 in a Bob Setting.  He Mastered that dang 109E4, avoiding Me.  >S< Banana Man, you've learned and Mastered all the Aircraft you up, and deserve your rep.  You've earned it, so far as I'm concerned.

SALUTE TO ANY AND ALL,  That desire to Improve the AvA, and do something to make it a bit better than when they came in.

Or, "The Axis versus Allies arena is set up for historical gameplay.  There is a two sided war, a limited plane set, and reduced radar." from flyaceshigh.com. Historical setups and terrains, lots of fun to be had. Step in, take a peek, enjoy your stay.
