We might as well get after Orca Whales for killing other whales for food. They dump all of their blood in the ocean as well, and they let the whales suffer in pain. If you're going to get after a human saying, "This is not humane!" Then please take a look at marine life. More likely marine life of the dolphin's size expects a painful death, even if it's longer than expected.

The concept of "humane" is a human invention and does not exist in nature.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

What eagl said.  This is very sad.  I respect cultural boundaries, but why must the animals be tortured like this?  If only we knew what they were feeling.  Can't a less brutal method be used to minimize the suffering?  I know Arabic Halal food law requires the animal to be killed a certain way, but the Japanese?

damn..

wikipedia says this throat slitting is now outlawed

In Japan, the hunting is done by a select group of fishermen.[4] When a pod of dolphins has been spotted, they're driven into a bay by the fishermen while banging on metal rods in the water to scare and confuse the dolphins. When the dolphins are in the bay, it is quickly closed off with nets so the dolphins cannot escape. The dolphins are usually not caught and killed immediately, but instead left to calm down over night. The following day, the dolphins are caught one by one and killed. The killing of the animals used to be done by slitting their throats which resulted in a long and painful death for the dolphin, but the Japanese government banned this method and now dolphins may officially only be killed by driving a metal pin into the neck of the dolphin, which causes them to die within seconds.[5]

Maybe for the same reason dog / cat eaters electrocute them to a horrific death; more adrenaline makes the meat tastier.

Denholm,

You might be confusing "evil" with either "immoral" (going against a set of morals) or "unmoral" (lacking morals).  The word "evil" typically implies an intent to do grave harm for no purpose other than causing suffering.  Some people convert "evil" to "sinful", but it's quite possible to consider something evil without bothering to justify that opinion by claiming to know the intent of some hypothetical higher power and many people claiming that certain behavior is "sinful" are simply trying to justify their own unsupportable predjuces and opinions by calling on a supposed authority that cannot be directly interviewed.

To determine if any particular instance of cannibalism is "evil", "immoral", "unmoral", or "sinful" depends on determining the purpose and exact actions of the cannibal.  Do you see any difference between a culture which allows cannibalism for food, vs. a culture which has developed elaborate torture rituals prior to consuming the flesh of their victim?

I do.  Is that evil?
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.
