The Gunfighters and AvA staff
« on: June 04, 2007, 12:00:10 PM »
TK said in another thread that I was an AvA staff "buddie" because some of them are in The Gunfighters. I want to address that here in the open.

The Gunfighters are a non-aligned squad, we are neither Axis or Allied. We have really only one rule and that is try, when possible, to switch sides in the AvA to even things up. For the most part we do. Other than that I tell members they can fly/drive/gun anything they want in any way they want as long as they try to switch to even things up. We are not a squad in the traditional sense in that we dont have any structure, I am the CO only in the sense that I started the squad, but any of them will tell you, they can do what they want when they want, and join or leave the squad any time they want without question. Allmetal was actually the first AvA player to join, and he soon left for JG54. Ask him what I said when he left and he will tell you it was "no problem Allmetal, good luck with JG54 and you are welcome back any time you want".

Several members of The Gunfighters are also AvA staff. The members of the squad on the AvA staff do not[/b] discuss AvA staff business with me or the other Gunfighters, and they never have. I know nothing more about what goes on in the AvA staff forum than any other regular player in the AvA. As a matter of fact, Soda72 who is a former member of JG54 is a Gunfighter (as are a few others). I did not even know he had joined the AvA staff until he posted a setup in the AvA forum.

I am proud, however, that so many of the AvA staff feel that they like being in the Gunfighters. I would hope that being in a non-aligned squad might make their already thankless job a bit easier not having to defend an axis or allied bias.

I didnt say you were a "CM buddie" because some of them are in your squad. Nor did I say anything about the GFes. I said you were a "CM buddie" mainly because you are on good terms and you are friends with some of them.

OK, sorry TK I misunderstood what you meant, that was my fault. Still, I think it is better that I got that out in the open.

I think you two should kiss and make up. Or just come over here I got enough luvin for the both of you. :D

Seriously, we're rolling thread over into thread. How about if all of us drop this and move on?

Let's all stand up knock the dust off ourselves, and go back to flying. We'll pick this arguement up again in a week or two. I just have that feeling.:aok

Shoot. That is how I make most of my friends by telling them I am on the AVA staff and a former CM. It impressed Dichodog until dogma told him about the check I sent Fork.

Gunfighters is a great squad with terrific members. Had the pleasure of meeting soda at the last Con. :)

yes but I was young and naive back then... I'm much wiser now.  :)

On a serious note can we please drop the crapola and just go fly and TRY to keep the AVA as the place for good air to air fun, side balancing, good sportsmanship, etc?

Being a moderator is a tough job and it's voluntary most of the time.  Yes there are those that get on a power trip and have their favorites (I'm speaking in generalities here I'm not aware of any staff members affiliations because I've never, yet, run afoul of any of them) but it's always like wearing a target on your back and having to defend any action or inaction.

My suggestion for the AVA staff is to warn once then squelch if it doesn't stop.  The stuff in the air the regulars I think will take care of just fine.  If I know someone on my side is vulching, ho'ing, etc, that is not generally acceptable here I'll happily hang them out to dry.  'oh sorry chap didn't notice you down there in that 5 v 1'.  They'll either A) get the picture or B) decide this isn't the place for them.  Either way is a win win.

I've always thought of it like this.  If someone cuts me off in traffic I might call them a !@#%headed mother!@!$%! who needs to stick a gerbil..... well you get the picture.  I blow up before I calm down.  On the internet I actually have to either A) push a button and blow up or B) bring up the radio box, type in my drivel, AND hit enter.

Geez, step back, count to 10 and decide if what you have to say is worth it.

Frankly in the time I've spent typing this I could have logged on, picked a plane, upped, and gotten killed.

Are we REALLY having more fun beating this dead horse on here or in the text buffer than we are flying our cartoon airplanes?

I don't think so.
