a question with questioning
« on: June 16, 2007, 09:36:40 AM »
I've been watching some videos of large bombing raids (In real life)

And have been wanting to take part in some.  Now... as much as I would love to jump into the video itself, the quality wouldn't be good enough, and I would probably mess up the time space continuem.

That's why we have this game :)  Are there any bomber squadrons in this game that do large bombing raids that could literally LEVEL a large airfield?

If you ever see GHI around on the Bishop's side he has a knack for getting large bomber formations up 60 or more pilots on some of his missions.  Yes on those missions they will shut down one or more bases.

I think I've flown one of his.  But actually, i'm looking for more of a squad thing.

Watched Nightmares do one of those a while back-- bout 10-15 sets lancs, all arranged side by side (forget the military term for that)--they all dumped their 54 500 pounders with perfect salvo setting....you would never know there had been a base there, was awesome:aok

http://www.78th.org/harm.htm

:D Every Sunday afternoon/evening(depending on your time zone). B17s (Baker flight led by 359th/78thBG) or B24s (Tiger flight led by 484th BG) from rear airfields, realistic climb/flight altitudes, long range runs, salvo on flight lead, exremely intense when the opposition throws 15 to 20 163s and 262s at you, all at once and usually when you're right over target, then run like hell for home, all the while two to four squads are usually up for escorting with jugs and ponys.

Way to much fun.
Hope to see you there.

What really kills a lot of the pre-planned missions is the arena caps.  Trying to get everyone in the same arena and on the same country for a large mission can at times be a problem, unless you want EW or MW.

Ditto, the Dickweeds Heavy Bomber Group (DHGB), as Stickpig mentioned.

Until recently, due to our squad's (JG-3 Udet) foray into Extreme Air Racing, for many, many weeks had a third, voluntary squad night that corresponded with the DHGB's night.  We provided high altitude Bomber Escort to and from the target.  With often 14-16 long range, high alt fighters, we flew forward, right, left, rear, and top cover groups on approach and egress to targets upto 3-4 sectors away.

We had some great battles with all types of interceptors, good fun for all sides.

The DHGB guys are precise in their operations and timinng.  They takeoff together on the minute, have specific bombing assignments, fly precise headings and turns in formation, and with usually 10-15 buff pilots, and our squad as escort, they usually decimated and flattened the target base and town in one pass.

If you want the closest WWII bomber mission experience I know of, the DHGB are it.
