Making a Soundpack
« on: June 13, 2007, 01:14:54 PM »
I'm currently working on a soundpack, I have all of the sounds and they are appropriately named in the sound folder, a lot of sounds are not working. For example the airraid is not going off, the guns are playing default gun sounds and gstrikes are not playing.

Are there any limitations I need to know of for making a soundpack, such as file size?

If default sounds are playing it is because your file is named incorrectly.

i.e.  A file named airraid_1 (-1 or 01) will not play in game.  You will need to rename the one you want as “airraid” to have it available.

Make sure these are sounds you have found, recorded, & or made are not ones that you have downloaded from other peoples (Aces High players) sound files.  i.e.  Don’t take files from Frudas sound pack & add them to yours (if you plan on making the sound pack available for others) as this will make the people that have made their own… not so happy :)

I’m not saying this is what you are doing, I’m just sayin, cause others have ripped people off & trying to make it their own.

Like TB said, it doesn't matter if you use thier sounds and make your own... all it takes is asking nicely OR give credit to them when you post it up or put a small wordpad doc in the folder saying something.
I collected over 330 gunsights for the game over the past many years and sent it out to people and then found it on the forums saying it was 'his' collection.  No note on getting it from the numerous people who made ths sights, let alone saying where he got....  Just be nice!:aok

Oh yes, by all means ask & ye shall recieve.  And say who you got it from.

Again, I'm not saying that you wouldn't. <>

Personally, I like to go to audio clip sites (usally movie quote audio) to get sound bites for check6's & Warnings   Pref. Full Metal Jacket bites :D

Trust me, no one has the sounds I am using;)

My files are named correctly, airraid is named airraid yet no playing in-game, I am wondering if maybe my file is too long for AH to play it.

As for guns, originally they were named 20mm_1 and I tried that, did not work. removed the _1 and still did not work.

Make sure it is in the proper format.  Looking at a couple of sound files, it should be 8 or 16 bit sample size, 22kHz sample rate and PCM format.

I used the same format for all sounds, and all are .wav files
Sounds that do not work are:
20mm
30mm
37mmman
m2
45acp
airraid
bomb
door
explode1
explode2
explode3
explode4
explode5
gear
gstrike1
gstrike2
gstrike3
gstrike4
flaps
hit
reload
rocket
splash
tankgun
whistle

the other sounds work properly

Try them in a different player, such as Winamp.  I know some of them won't play in windows media player, so try winamp....:aok

In addition to being 8 or 16 bit and 22.050 or 44.1 KHz, most AH sounds should also be mono (1 channel).

They all work in winamp... and I used the same settings for all sounds so I don't see why one sound will work while another doesn't

ok I got them working, some sounds were saved as stereo when I thought they were mono.
Now my only problem seems to be the sounds for guns are not changing from the default.
The filenames are 20mm, 30mm, 37mm, 37mmman, 30cal, m2 correct?
