the dade county zoo was once located on key biscayne at crandon park. every time a hurricane struck many animals escaped. today we have monk parakeets eliminating the crow population, wild peanoodles happily roaming the streets of coconut grove, all manner of macaws free in flight making their homes on our golf courses.
I'm sure a few primates could have escaped and made their way north undetected via the everglades. too bad no one has said the thing stinks. here's the thing that stumps, how come no one has found any skeletal remains? the last large loss of animals that I recall was during hurricane cleo in 1965. during that event the old zoo was completely demolished and they lost quite a few primates. do apes live to the age fifty years old in the wild?

From a quik google search, " An orangutan's lifespan is about 35-40 years in the wild, and sometimes into the 50's in captivity."
