It's not difficult to guess the ethnicity of a date called juneteenth. Hmmm, that might be a little racist. ;)

Makes you a "realist" IMO.

And it is indeed a shame that a few (hundred in this case) tarnish something meant to be uplifting.

Didn't expect this from a city that boasts, "This is a city with a heart and with a soul. Cosmopolitan, yet unpretentious. Thriving cultural scene and vibrant nightlife. High-tech, low-key. Big city, college town. Quirky and far from ordinary, it's the kind of place where you check your worries at the city limits sign, trade in suits for something a bit more casual and prepare for experiences you'll find only in Austin."

Your title should be.....

Part of Austin....not Texas in general.

I live just North of Austin and work downtown. 1 block north of the capital as a matter of fact.

Austin itself is a wonderful place to have a good time in. I wouldn't live in Austin proper for anything. Taxes SUK...City Council is a joke....and its WAY TO LEFT for me.

But as a town of beautiful things to see , the lakes , rivers , and some of the cultural things I like, its one in a million.

Texas itself isn't third world...but there is a part of Austin....that any lighter skinned person with a lick of sense would stay out of at certain times. That don't make me a racist.

Uhhh, if it's a Texas thing, why is it celebrated in Milwaukee?

You read about a "Juneteenth" celebration and lept to the conclusion that the people there were black? I think you need to change your name to Kreskin.

then why EVERY year we have a multitude of blocks shut down and "mob violence" while the news talks about the cultural importance of juneteenth, and it is city sponsered?

I actually know people who leave the city limits for the days surrounding it.

I guess there's some huge reason Milwaukee is a center for "black" community. I still don't know why the "black holocaust" museum is here in Milwaukee either.
I don't know what to put here yet.

I have no idea why Milwaukee celebrates the day Texas slaves were freed.

From Wikipedia...
Quote
Though the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued on September 22, 1862, with an effective date of January 1, 1863, it had little immediate effect on most slaves’ day-to-day lives, particularly in Texas, which was almost entirely under Confederate control. Juneteenth commemorates June 19, 1865, the day Union General Gordon Granger and 2,000 federal troops arrived on Galveston Island to take possession of the state and enforce the emancipation of its slaves. Standing on the balcony of Galveston’s Ashton Villa, Granger read the contents of “General Order No. 3”:

The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor. The freedmen are advised to remain quietly at their present homes and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect at military posts and that they will not be supported in idleness either there or elsewhere.[6]

That day has since become known as Juneteenth, a name derived from a portmanteau of the words June and nineteenth.

Ahh, we have ground zero for ebonics!

And no BS about the animosity between blacks and hispanics in Texas.  My mother in law is 100% hispanic and you should hear some of the things said at her family reunions.

I suspect it's my overindulgence in alcohol prompting me to mention that I have an idea what the "third world" is but what are the first and second worlds?

A good definition as any I suppose:

No, I read about the rioting of mass amounts of people for no real reason.

Then I guessed they were black.

I came to the conclusion that they were black when all the black people on the video proved I was right.

Certainly not for "no reason". A group suffering a persecution complex is prone to react emotionally to a perceived attack. Doesn't justify killing of course.

Interesting stament there about the persecution complex.

Ever wonder if the Al Sharptons / Jesse Jacksons of the world promoted a different message than "Woe is We" how things would be?
