Speaking of Painting. Product alert

As of this year I cannot and will not endorce any of the Benjamin Moore Oil based Semi Transparent or Semi Solid exterior Deck and Siding stains

Asome of you may or may not know they had a product recall last year and took their oil based stains off the market for reformulations to meet VOC complience.

The end result is a terrible product.
Covers terribly and overly difficult to work with on new or previously stained wood Stained even with the same color.
Next to impossable not not leave lap marks

Can reccomendations call for two wet coats on weathered or rough wood.
I found this not to be true and found a more consistant and even coverage by waiting 24 hours between recoats to acheive an even finish.

Overall. while I find their paints both interiour and exteriour to still be of high quality
Their exteriour Transparent and semi transparent stains to be nothing short of atrocious.

If your staining your house or deck with either type finish I HIGHLY reccomend staying away from Ben Moore and going instead with Cabbot.
where I have experienced no such probems

Check the latest Consumer Reports about deck stains..I believe it rates Cabbot at the top of 3 year tested stains.

I highly recommend Behr brand too(Home Depot) after using it on two decks.

Most important thing you can do to ensure great results is to get a quality deck cleaner and a brush..Give it your best scrubbing(not in direct sunlight)

the last thing you want to do is to have to "try" and remove a dried stain from wooden deck after the results were poor(old grey uncleaned wood will change the colour of semi-transparent stains final appearance)

Home was properly cleaned and prepped. In this case it was the exteriour siding of the home.

I've been doing this for going on 30 years And am one nit picky bastad when it comes to the quality of my work.
LOL on more then one occasion I've had self proclaimed picky customers tell ME "Its good enough already"

But in all my years, and I've worked with ALOT of different stuff. some good, some not so good. I have never had the headaches this product has given me.

Typically I'll use Cabbot because I like the way it consistantly works. And its never given me any issues. (Im kinda funny that way)

I only used Ben Moore by customer request because I know the quality of their paints and havent really had an significant problems with their stains in the past
But their current reformulation of their stains this year is nothing short of horrid

I've heard similar complaints from other contractors as well that I know to do high quality work. So I know its not just me LOL

Havent used Behr Stains.
I WONT use behr paints. I loath them. Especially their Semi gloss.
So I've eyed Consumer reports with an eye of non trusting suspicion ever since they reported Behr paint as being superiour to Ben Moore Reagal line
(its far from it)

Its unlikely I've ever use Behr anythng unless the workload is VERY low and a customer  absolutely insists.
which aint the case right now.

But I will keep your advise in mind
