ASUS motherboard

Was wondering if anyone here has dealt with ASUS tech support.

A few days ago i found my PC dead.  Power light was on like it was asleep but wouldnt wake up, nor were any of my USB devices and and monitor showing signs of life.  Tried to power down using front switch for 10 seconds but wound up having to hit switch on power supply, after which it wouldnt come on at all.  Tried a few extra power supply's and found one that worked and continued to TS.  found one bad stick of RAM and now suspect that the PS spiked and may have fried the MB since after a few reboots the system stopped booting.  I get power now but not even a *beep* from BIOS.  Called ASUS and am getting no where, they say i need to rule out the processor (AMD 3200+) but i dont have any systems that I can test it in.  I would prefer to not pay a shop to test it but am a loss for what i could try next...

AFAIK the MB should beep some code to indicate all is well or if it has a problem, a lack of beeps would point to a MB issue. correct?

any suggestions would be appreciated.

Lack of beeps would indicate bad MB or CPU.  If it a Nforce 3 chipset, more then likely it both.  I had a nforce 3 chipset in a friends computer and it wiped out both 3 times.  That MB was prone to having bad Voltage regulators.

Had simular problems with my HP pavillion a646c. Ansus, nForce3 and 3200+. Sometimes it would reboot for no reason. Or I'd get beeps and nothing. Or just nothing.

Checked all power connections. Replaced a RAM stick that looked like it had gotten hot. No joy.

Noticed that the CPU fan was backwards from the last good cleaning and fixed that. Thought I'd fried the CPU and took it out and put it back in. Funny thing is it did alright for a few days after that.

Then it started acting up again. Beeps and nothing. Smacked it up side the head the next time I heard the beeps and it booted. Bad HDD right? Well it's done just fine for 2 years and with several re-boots. Go figure.

ASUS A8V DEluxe (mmmmmmmm, deluxe)
VIA VT8237R chipset.

I've just pulled it completely apart and reassembling it with GREAT care and attention to detail hoping that it was some weird gremlin.

I have an ASUS K8V somethingerother, with a 3200---had same thing--bough another power supply, nada, bought the exact same mb, (so I wouldnt have driver problems), stuck old cpu in new mb, came right up. As you have a 3200, I'm guessing your mb is a couple years off new, and a replacement is prolly less than $75

How much would an amd 3200+ cost you? If it's cheap enough, and you want to save tech support costs, then maybe you could pick up one to test the motherboard. If it proves the board is bad, then you would have a backup CPU/tester for future use.

I couldn't get the user's guide, but it looks like your Asus mtb supports 'Socket 939' Cpu's.  I priced a few and they run around $50.00. You could pick one up and use it to test your mtb and have a backup/tester for future use.

Asus support is pretty good, although these days, it sometimes takes a bit to reach them. I had a d.o.a asus mtb just a couple of months ago, and it was replaced with no problems or delays. But, I had another mtb to test the cpu and prove it was the mtb.

the mb was like 70 bucks, logic would dictate a LOT more can go wrong with mb than cpu

Granted CPU's going bad do happen, more often than not CPU's going bad are a result of heatsinks not properly seated causing the CPU to massively overheart, same with dead CPU Fan.  Or overvoltage by a bad PSU can fry your CPU.  Or the good old lightning strike or massive power surge.

Sounds motherboard related with the problems you've described.
