Glitching through terrain in GVs - landscape exploit

Anyone else besides me feel this is wrong?
For those that don't know what I refer to, if you slide your object slider bar all the way to the right, it decreases the distance at which trees, shrubs, grass, etc. (scenery objects) start to render.
Unfortunately, this doesn't apply to players or GVs, and they can see you despite using terrain for cover.

Sure they can't shoot you, and if they try they'll get a hit sprite on the object you're behind, but they know where you are, all the time. Might as well turn all the scenery into glass blocks, triangles, and squares for obstacles.

Just another flaw of the game I guess.

I use that all the time in GV's and always have but quite by accident actually.

My machine's not fast enough to run object detail anywhere BUT minimum so when I slide ground detail up to maximum, yep, I can see tanks 3 miles out no matter what terrain features are between me and them.

Just before the new terrain release I realized it was an advantage.  I was alone at a port one night after defending it and decided to slide object detail up to see what I had been missing out on all this time.  Wow.  A lot, but, I also realized I could no longer see so far because of all the trees, shrubs, hills, etc. in the way.

If I were forced to run object detail at max the game would be unplayable for me.

I've always coached players, mostly in the help and training forum, to set their video settings this way when in GV's but I don't think most understand the benefits.

While it's an advantage to those who do this, it's an available option to everyone so I certainly don't view it as cheating or gaming the game.

I guess the alternate is to force the issue and lose a few players with older machines like me.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

Don't render enemy gv until within your detail range.

That would penalize those with slower (less capable) systems though, right?

Running at reduced detail is considered an exploit now? Guess I missed that announcement.

If I'm hid in a spot of trees they couldn't see me anyway right?

But if they're not behind a tree or other obstruction, they could see you before you see them.  I personally have my ground detail turned way down, mostly because I don't GV too much and it helps my flying FPS.  But, when I do GV, I turn on the [shift+f4] to maximize ground detail and only then can I pick up GV's at the (unobstructed) maximum visual range.  Just an example.

If you have to decrease detail range because of weak computer, it must penalize you not other players.

Bronk's solution seems fair for me.
