Personally I think it's a good idea. No need to specify times though. Just choose your side assignment, and fly. Get a few squads in there to oppose you. Basically, chose a tour of duty and stick with it.

Dedalos,
I'm not sure if I'm not communicating well, or if you're just trying to piss me off, because this is the second time you've done this in as many weeks.  First you somehow took one of my posts and turned it into a spit is uber whine and now this.

Not trying to piss you off.  Just posting my opinion.  Does that piss you off?  As far as the spit goes, yeah, I tend to get that way when someone that cant fight their way out of a paper bag makes comments about just pulling hard on the stick when you are in a spit.  Ask the guys flying them yesterday if thats all it took.

I am NOT saying that anyone who comes into the AvA should have to do anything.  It is a public arena, one that I tend to gravitate to when there are some folks in it, and one that I think should be the most popular in AH.  I'm not sure why it isn't because it has virtually everything that is whined about that is missing from the MA.

Stick around and you will find out.  As I said on my post, we got lucky the last couple oof days.  Wait for the fast planes with cannon and then tell me how diff from the MA the AvA is

At any rate, I THINK that there are other folks out there, besides me, that enjoy flying in a more structured environment than simply upping a plane, flying into the furball, rinse and repeat.  I would like to explore the idea of folks with that mindset meeting in the AvA because, 1. frequently it's empty, and 2. because the limited planeset and historical maps lend themselves to setting up a scenario based fight.

All that I'm really looking for is any interest in this.  It seems to be lukewarm.  That's fine.  This is just an idea.  I can try and meet Shifty's group Tuesday at 9pm est with a handful of squaddies and see what happens.  I think it would be quite easy to say to Shifty and the 348th, 'hey guys, lets meet a 9pm Wednesday night, and we'll do a fighter sweep mission with us out of a10 and you defending a11' or something of the sort.

You or anyone else who is either in there or comes in can do whatever you'd do normally.  Maybe you want to join a side and be part of the fight.  Maybe you want to be a spoiler.  Maybe you want to do your own thing on another part of the map.  Frankly it makes no difference to me in the long run, but I HOPE that you'll pick a side, up a fighter, and shoot someone down  with the group.
[/B]

We have the EWA, MWA, and LWA for all this.  Why change the AvA to be just like them?

You're the vet in AvA, not me, which is why I'm simply throwing out the idea.  You guys that have been doing this for years need to let me know if it's a good one worth pursuing or not.  Doesn't sound like you're for it, fine.  But don't read more into what I posted- I'm not trying to require you or anyone else to do anything other than what you normally do.  In fact, I'd suggest that people that want to participate in the mission stuff move a few bases away, just so as not to interfere with business as usual.

Chances are this will lead to nothing, but the idea of something other than FSO events to fly in a somewhat structured environment sounds like fun to me.

I'm not for it, but thats just me.  I just posted my opinion. No one says that you should not ask for it or try it, no one is trying to piss you off, and no one is reading in to it.  You are asking for the AvA to become like the MAs. I'd rather not see it since this is what makes the AvA different.  The rest is the same.  Its not like people change when they enter that arena.

This can be a lot of fun, toonces. Filth used to advertise heavy bomber missions in advance; people who came into the arena evened out the sides, decided who was going to fly what, and flew the missions.  They were memorable, generally quite historical (I'm remembering some Ju-88 Battle of Britain missions, and some B-17/P-51 8th AF missions) and a lot of fun.  It's like a pick-up game of basketball.  You don't even need a lot of players (there was one Tunisia mission that had something like six or eight people, total, that still worked well).  People who aren't interested in the mission, or who (like me, all too often) can't be there for its duration, are free to do their usual fighting, usually somewhere under the bomber route.  Everyone is happy.

The only thing you have to watch - and I think it might be an issue with this setup - is that you don't get too many people who are wedded to one plane (e.g., F4U-4 or -1C), throwing the sides way off balance.  Happily, it looks like folks have been working hard to keep things even these past months.

Actually it doesn't matter how you fly, the main point is that you're having fun. But please respect the person you shot down / whom shot you down. Please keep the game enjoyable for everyone. :)
