Has anyone had experience dealing with Verizon DSL? I recently ran several ping plots and see 10-50% packet loss at one or more of the 4 hops in the Verizon network between my computer and the HT server. I see some packet loss at hops further down the line beyond the Verizon network but have no idea what to do about those. Verizon is the biggest problem. Sometimes it’s only at one but often it’s at 2 or 3 of the Verizon hops.
When I call the Verizon tech support number I get a person working from a script who heads straight for troubleshooting my home internet connection and doesn’t seem to know what a data packet is. I then get booted to someone with a little more knowledge but whose focus is still on my local connection. In the most recent fiasco the person reconfigured my account to the point that I had no internet connection at all and then told me I obviously had a problem with my home equipment. After a little yelling and screaming he transferred me to a supervisor who was able to restore my internet connection but told me that Verizon could not take responsibility for my game not running well and that I needed to resolve the problem with the provider of the game. To get to someone who even understands that they have a network through which data passes seems virtually impossible.
I’m hoping there is someone out there who has been through this with Verizon and can suggest an approach that will get somewhere or, perhaps, will even have a contact phone number.
I could change providers but that’s a hassle I’d rather not go through and I don’t know that I wouldn’t be worse off. I am in Indiana and would be interested in any ISPs that have worked well for others.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Condor
