If you notice the gun sight does shake when you fire in a bomber. Which is probably your recoil.

In the Navy, I fired alot of .50 cals (same guns as 17's) from mounted positions, there is almost no recoil.  Of course there is vibration, but no recoil.  I was shocked the first time I fired it that such a big gun was so stable.
