Spit vs Spit and took off manual trim....
« on: July 14, 2007, 11:54:15 PM »
Pilots....

Got into a "knife" fight with another Spit...
We started going round and round on deck...
Then I thought of it and took off my "manual trim" and quickly adjusted my elevator.
Whithin seconds I turned tighter and was able to dispose of him !

I was suprised ! Very suprised !

Was this the results of me manualy adjusting the elevator trim ?
Does it make it that much difference  ?

No I didn't record it :cry

Trimming up the Elevator Trim manually or even turning on CT ( this is what u mean when u say u took off your manual trim, I am thinking.)

will help you gain better control, when fighting SLOW........( IMO, it is what works for you best, CT on when slow can hurt you(me) sometimes plane type dependent)

did this help you win the fight? or was it you controlling your plane better than the other guy? who was also bleeding his / her energy the same as you were.  Although you trimmed up your plane for the slower speed, does not mean your opponent did not already have his CT turned on to begin with.......it means you managed to control your plane & E better to gain position

Flying the merry-go-round fight,  if you have played this game any length of time, is easy to spot.....as soon as you find yourself flying/fighting in a flat turning merry-go-round fight ( I do not consider this a knife fight by the way ). You should get out of sync, position to fly high yoyo, shallow low yoyo manuevers, let the opponent keep turning the flat turn.

I sit and watch in CM eye mode players in KOTH get into fights, some go round & round & round & round add infinium.......the better players realize what is going on. The first to break the cycle and starts oblique turning usually 9 out of 10 times comes out the victor, simply because he used what he has learned.......both pilots being in the same plane type, both using CT ( Combat Trim )...the deciding factor flying for position verses playing merry-go-round(flat turning ).......

edit: I consider a knife fight as flying near edge of stall, low speed end of the flight envelope, using maneuvers as yoyo's, scissors, etc.......flying so close just before colliding yet not able for either to gain a deflection shot, or something like that :)

It looks to me like you shut off CT if you manually adjusted your trim

Not sure what Phil is trying to say with "took off manual trim".  Does that mean that Phil was trimming manually and turned on Combat Trim or does he mean that he had Combat Trim on and  he turned the Combat Trim off, Ie...... "quickly adjusted my elevator".

My reading of TC’s post gives me the impression that TC’s believes that Phil turned on his Combat Trim.

I’m not so sure that is what Phil said.

regardless if he trimmed his Elevator up manually with the key command or a programmed button, or if he induced  Combat Trim by way of toggling Ctrl-X.....

they both  will help you with control when fighting slow.......

read my 1st sentence
Quote
Trimming up the Elevator Trim manually or even turning on CT ( this is what u mean when u say u took off your manual trim, I am thinking.)

will help you gain better control, when fighting SLOW.......

he said he was on manual Trim, to me that means he is trimmed to a specific point( ie....speed in level flight )

he mentions he took off his manual trim.....to me that means he either turned on Combat Trim or he re-adjusted his trim tabs

he mentions quickly adjusted elevator.....does not say he manually adjusted it until near end with the question if manual adjusting helps and if it makes that big a difference......

.....now read what I posted, it helps when SLOW, and for some ( including me), it is depending on the plane type if trimming up the elevator when slow is in question.........

when I am fighting the same plane type in a duel, and I am not gaining any angles, being at stalemate, well yes I will possibly trim up the Elevator trim if we both are slow.........regardless if I do it manually or if i toggle CT on and off......

but I wanted to note that the other guy may have been flying with CT on to begin with  and/or was  trimmed out for the slow speed fight going round and round,

I did not want Phil to think he merely won because he trimmed his elevator..I wanted him to see the whole picture. with that said, along with what I 1st posted, how many of you did I lose or confuse , now? :)
