Stick gumming up works
« on: July 25, 2007, 08:47:34 PM »
Hi, Ive noticed when I fly bombers, and when I go to the guns, using my stick to move and shoot the guns throws my bomber off of auto pilot. Its at a point where Im flying around in circles when I have to fight  the enemy. Ive tried Alt/X, X, and Shift X, and while they work fine if I dont go to gun positions they do not hold the plane when Im fighting it.

I have a Saitek aviator stick and wonder what I can do with this problem, or, is it common. Thank you............Rich

Do you use the stick to fight the guns? And you have no problems with the stick turning the airplane while fighting the guns?

It sounds like you have the left-right tilt of the stick set to be the rudder input. Bombers bank from a gunner position when the rudder is turned.

Go into your stick mapping in game and move your joystick as if you were trying to tilt the wing. Note which number on the clipboard varies the most. You should assign it to the proper input. I don't remember exactly what it's called, but it's obvious; like Aileron or Roll.
Do this for each stick input just to make sure. When you're done, calibrate the stick in the game and in Windows, if possible.

What do you mean by that?

The left/right movement of the stick IS assigned to aileron. So if I assign it to somthing else then how do I control the aircraft? And since the swinging of the guns also destablizes the aircraft then the bottom line is I cant both fly and fight. Not even on auto pilot.

                            Thanks for any help...........Rich

The left-right axis should be assigned as Aileron. If it were anything else, that would be the problem.

Make sure you're editing stick set #1 and that the "Rudder" command is assigned to the appropriate axis and not the part of the stcik you'd like to use as roll/bank.

OK, Roy Neese just got back to me on it. The issue wasn't what I had "assigned". It was a dampening problem. When I dampened a few sticks controls, most of all aileron, my bomber and guns became far more stable. Frankly I should have caught this myself because my stick was causing me problems with fighters in that it was far to responsive and I was planning to dampen for that reason.

                            Thanks again to all...............Rich

That makes sense. A few days from now I might've gotten to that. :D
