If you colide on "your" computer, you get the "you have collided with..." message. If the other guy colides on "his" computer, you will see the "so-and-so has collided with you" message. In most cases, if "you" colide, "you" take the damage.

Last night I was in a rolling scissors with "SirLoin" in his Yak. We were getting pretty slow over the top, and he kinda "flopped" at the top of a roll, and flopped right into my flight path and I hit him. I don't think he took any damage, but I had engine damage and the fight was over.

It's not even remotely related to this thread ... Lusche's prediction has now come true.

Watch "Not My Time to Die" (again).  "One second the sky is full of aircraft, then nothing...."

I think the idea was to intercept prior to the enemy hitting the bombers if possible vs. dogfighting amongst them.  Gunners shoot first and determine at whom later.

Interception as well, fly through as quickly as possible to limit exposure.

Just my perception though.

(The next question is probably going to be "how come someone runs into me and I die and they don't", right?  If so, the answer is netlag - it takes a quarter second or so for your machine to receive the information about where their aircraft is (speed of light and host turnaround and all that), and a 1/4 second at 250 mph is a significant distance when one of you is trading paint! So on their system, the collision never happened.)

Did you really have to answer this? Now look what you started!

OK, I know, I know the predicted collision model in the thread became true.... But would like to throw something out there for thought somewhat along the line of the original thread.

I'm sure there is no answer for this, but just something that has been wondered for some years.......

During the huge air fights in europe, britain and central europe.... There was massive amounts of ammo shot, cartridges expelled, shrapnel from flak, rounds from other AA batteries, as well as pieces of planes shot off.

With all that metal going up, gravity rules persist that it also comes down. I wonder how many injuries or deaths came about while walking along the road, then "poof" a piece of metal or expended round comes from the sky and hits you.  The odds might not have been that good you'd get hit, but still the odds would be there.

I don't know why, but have wondered about that when I see footage of the formations and fights.

Just pondering............

I remember reading about a German pilot who crashed into a LaGG, his prop chewing through the LaGG's fuselage. IIRC, the LaGG went down and the the 109 returned to base successfully, albeit with a severely damaged prop, aileron and engine.

Also, I believe it was common practice for Russian pilots to ram German aircraft (particularly at the beginning of the war) due to the fact that the Russian pilots were so hopelessly inexperienced, ramming was their only real chance in air-to-air combat.
