My rudder does not work
« on: July 17, 2007, 11:55:36 AM »
No i dont use any pedals or other inputs except my keyboard and trusty sidewinder joystick.

When i came back from vacation today everything was normal except for the rudder.

its mapped to A S D but when i press them nothing happens. Ive tried mapping them again and even tried to use other keys for rudder control but nothing. Everything else works, and as you can see i have no trouble typing with the ASD buttons.

Can i delete a file in some folder that deals with inputs like stick and keyboard and start over?

Maybe the fix is so easy that i cant see it.

Oh.. while on holiday i did use my mouse as controller so i could man a gun. Could there be anything to that?

check to make sure you don'y hant have the analog throttle mapped to your mouse wheel. If you have the throttle mapped to any other "axis" it will supperseed the keyboard.

Hell man, twisty (even on a sidewinder) is 100x better than keyboard!

But, Fugitive is 100% right. The keyboard is detached from rudder control when any other controller is mapped to "rudder".

Dont have twisty and dont want it. I never use rudder in combat and i have gotten so used to it that more controls would just confuse me. I use it for taxi only.

Problem is solved tho. The Fugetive got me thinking when he mentioned the mouse thingy. I mapped the scrollbar thingy on the touchpad thingy on my laptop to (none) and now it works. It was not set to anything but i unmapped it just to be sure and its now fixed.

Thx for jumpstarting my brain Fugetive :)

Sorry for the hijack, but the problem is solved and I'd like to go on a tangent:

Sidewinders are twisty sticks, how can you have a sidewinder without a twist axis?

Not only are they vital and important for lining up shots, for somebody who's a 109 lover you're only getting half the ability of your ride without using rudder (that includes in the vertical, in tight turns, in slow speed situations, in correcting slip while firing)....

No twisty on this sidewinder. maybe there are more than one version. I have the simplest version and i like it.

Rudder is not _vital_ at all for me in combat. You simply fly in a different manner than if you have rudder. You should know that i do pretty well in both 109s, 190s or whatever i fly :) Maybe i would do even better if i had rudder peddals, i do realise that would have more options if i did use em. One of the reasons i dont bother with dueling is that i know i have that disadvantage so if i duel with someone on similar skill level and same plane i would lose most of the fights. I flew for a couple of months with mouse and did pretty well so i just do the best i can with what i have.

I have noticed you do well, but it must be frustrating to know there's things you can't do without it. Not to mention all the missed shots that were juuuuuust a bit off-center.

Hehe yeah, but ive learned to deal with it. You can do alot of adjustments without rudder, but yes... there are some missed chanses and annoing moments .
