GV Graphics settings

Not sure if this has been posted before, but...

I'd like it if all GV's had the same graphics setting ( as in a default) that could not be changed. All the way up, or all the way down... Or in between :D

So  for some that play with their graphics all the way down, they wouldn't be able to  pinpoint someone 3k away in a set of trees or behind a hill.

Or visa-versa.

Scuzzy, Is this even possible?

I for one HAVE to play w/ my graphics turned almost all the way down.

It's not a "choice".

Your "fix" of all the way up, or in-between, would = Lute (and many others) not being able to use GV's in AH.

I don't dis-agree that "something" needs to be done.  (it's WAY down my list of "things that need to be done in AH btw)  But I don't your suggestion is "it".

Consider that, for the longest time, it was nearly impossible for folks to drive GVs without frames per second dropping to (low) single digit numbers. It's still a massive hit, way more so than the largest of furballs. FORCING everybody at max settings would cause most to quit driving GVs. End result: YOU have nobody to shoot!

On the other hand, if HTC were to force all to the LOWEST minimum specs, that would also improve FPS if they could just remove most of the trees and bushes from the game. You remember back in AH1 days back before all these trees and stuff? Folks still had fun then! They still had FPS then, too!

It's a toss up between alienating 90% of the GV drivers with lower end PCs (the majority), or dumbing it down and removing all the eyecandy so that everybody's on an even footing.

Personally I think the second option is better.

Gv graphics redux

Tie the graphics slider to GV's visibility and the problem would be solved.  If a tree can't be seen over 1k, then neither can a tank.

BRILLIANT!!

Only, you'll still be seen by them. Not fair to have your slider turned down and be picked off at 1.1k (VERY close range) because your sliders were down.

Have to save the players from themselves, so to speak.

I have suggested this everytime I see a post about it.  If you can't see the trees...you can't see the gv.  If you are behind trees/ hill then they shouldn't be able to see you....regardless of setting.  If you go behind a tree your GV should disappear.

Well the agrument behind messing up GVing for the low end guys is stupid because the current way has messed it up for me.  I hate gving and getting hit by a guy I can't even see.  I run with all my settings on max...the game was made this way for a reason.  Why don't they take all the trees, hills, hedge rows out and make a flat surface that you can see for miles.  That my friend would make for a boring ugly game.

I agree. Get rid of 90% of the trees. I jump into a GV for one reason - to shoot things not to practice my driving skills dodging trees.

One more thing, make the throttle usable in all positions. The commander, while in the turret,  could give the driver orders to start/stop, speed up/slowdown.

I think dropping eye candy is OK to even it up between those with slow machines and those that exploit.

I applaud you for having a newer generation machine... but...
If you're getting tooled by GVers that have their graphics turned down and ground vis range turned up, then [duh] turn YOUR graphics down and your ground vis range up!! Others have made the point that you have to make the game playable to the greatest number of players, some of whom are still using Windows98 with an "on board" video card.  It is also true that if most palyers ran GVs with the graphics settings maxed out their frame rates would drop to an unplayable level. Some players will exploit this to their advantage... If you wish to get killed continually then keep doing it the way you are doing it now, otherwise...

I guess this is what I wanted to say.

The slider should make the game more playable on your machine, not give you X-ray vision.

I am not getting "tooled" by the people who expoit this...Ranked 4 in gv now.  I am a very good shot in tank or osti.  Not that rank is important...but I can hang with almost any gver in the game.  I will not game the game just to get kills...it's unhonorable.  If you need to game the game to get kills your weak.   I'm just say we even the playing ground some so that both low end and high end computers can play the game on equal ground.  Whats the point of hills, trees, hedge rows if you can simply remove them?  Take them out I don't care

You make a valid point, However you missed mine. I do not game the game to get kills... I could care less about the score. I play for fun. But it isn't fun for me when some spawn camper is invisible to me and sitting behind an obstruction killing my squaddies and myself when we up. My point is that until there is a resolution to this "issue", don't automatically give your opponant an advantage. I agree that it is more fun to fight on even terms, but whan a guy can see me from 3 miles out through the trees, and I can not see him that is hardly even. So, When in Rome...
