Control modes?
« on: August 01, 2007, 08:51:22 PM »
Hi I downloaded AH2 yesterday and I have a question about the control modes in the map controller options. How do you switch from Mode 1 (Planes and Defaults) to Mode 2 (Vehicles and Boats) after you have entered the cockpit right before you are to take off?  Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

In the map controller section under where it says "Mode 1" there is a box and text saying "automaticly select mode for flight" or something like that. Check mark that box and when you start a sortie in the text it will say "Mode 1 selected" in orange text or "Mode 2 selected" if you take a gv.

You can also assign a keys to switch to one of the four modes in the key/controller mapper setting screen, if you prefer to do it manually. Else if you have the automode box checked, it will switch automagically.

If in mode one, you set a button to switch to mode 2. Then in mode 2 you set the same button to switch to mode 1. What you'll have is a single button that will let you switch between modes. ie a  repeating switch.

Once thats setup then you can map the UP views to your hat switch in mode 2 and switch views by changing modes.

You can also change guns from primary only to all guns, etc, skys pretty much the limit once you set it up.

I use all modes.

First I have 3 joysticks. As they break I still use them.

What really helps, is the Avaitor joystick, but you could use anything you want. I think F5-F8 would work easily as I dont use them in game.

The first thing you want to do though, is map out your Mode1. This I use for pure fighter mode. This sets up flaps, wep, primary fire, secondary fire, and all guns fire. THe key here though, is you want to make sure you define your modes somewhere, then copy them to the other modes.
So Mode 2 now now becomes my dive bombing. Which basically changes the fire primary to changes to weapon select, and some other small details, that use. Then after weapon realease I immediatly go back to mode 1, with the flick of a toggle.
Mode 3 now becomes my bombing mode. Alot of key differences here. What ever works for you.

Mode 4 is my GV, and thats got some major key differences there too.

Modes, Gotta love em. :aok
Forgot who said this while trying to take a base, but the quote goes like this. "I cant help you with ack, Im not in attack mode" This is with only 2 ack up in the town while troops were there, waiting. The rest of the town was down.

Thank you and one more question.

Awesome. Thank you for the help and advice. I do have one more question. Are Throttle up/down and RPM increase/decrease the same? Mainly I mean when landing. The AH2 online tutorial that discusses Airfield Landing uses the term ''throttle'' but in the options you can use both.

RPM is separate from throttle. 2 different things. RPM affects the pitch of the prop blades, throttle is how much gas (like flooring it in a car)

Most players don't map RPM. The +/- on your number pad (not the ones over the ENTER key!) increase or reduce RPM. Use the throttle on your stick for throttle in flight, and tap the RPM keys when needed.

That should work. Most folks fly years without realizing there's an RPM control. Don't worry about it at first.

In a fighter, very rare to touch RPM, mostly use it to conserve fuel on long escort trips.

In a bomber ont he other hand I use almost every sortie. I usually pull back to 24 on the RPM, and 40 on the Manifold ( Throttle ) to bomb. that will give me a true air speed of 246. Thats plenty fast, but suttle movements keep me slow enough to hit targets if I have to move alittle with rudder trim keys. J and L

Cheers

F5 by default is CM eye and if you play special events, it is useful to have.  In KOTH and Racing it is used to watch the event once you are down and out.

F8 is useful in bombers to get a different view than dead 6 when in external mode.  Ie on take off I do F3 (external mode), F8 press the up key (my numpad 8) and get a view that is above the other bombers on the runway in our FSO nights or massed raids.

Just my thoughts on unmapping the native functions of F5 and F8.
