Pony Pilots, Get The Lead Out!!!
« Reply #15 on: July 30, 2007, 08:46:01 AM »
Registration will officially open August 1st.

If the teams want to, and have been, aggressively recruiting players that want to form up early they have my full support.

I would much prefer an event filled with players who are aggressive in team building over one filled with last minute slot filling and then we don't see them until 10 min before frame 1.

If that is the type of player you are, feel free to do just that.  But for crying out loud get off the backs of those who want to do it differently.

get it organized right from the get go

Please explain to me a better way.

We have the rules.  The COs are in place.  The schedule is in place.  The teams are pre-building with Energy and Enthusiasm far in advance of the registration start date.  Leadership spots have been filled with self starting people, who have made it clear to anyone that listens that they are Not concerned with the planes and rules, but have full confidence that they can handle Anything thrown at them and will deal with Any difficulties that comes their way.

Is there some flaw in this plan that has been missed?

Preorganising is fine, so is filling the leader positions with energetic and commited people.
But thinking about reorganising the event, even changing the time frame because not enough pony drivers registered before registration is even up is rather strange...

Hosting a great party or event
Hosting a great party or event without flaw for that perfect event is made easy and a sure fire with the information in this article.

Hosting a party or an event can be very exciting, but at the same time it can be rather stressful. I have been helping people plan events on everything from stags right through to their children's birthday parties. Ivitation etiquette, foods and snacks as well as music choices. Party hosting can be a breeze, just follow some basic guidelines and you are on your way to a Party Success Story.

INVITATIONS

A great place to start because every event needs an invitation as a way of letting people know what is going on, when it is taking place, and how to get a hold of the person running the event. With many people now owning PC's, it is perfectly acceptable to make your own invatations assuming that the event is not a wedding. Get creative, and get the family involved by coming up with snazzy invitations of your own. They can be as fancy or as plain as you want them to be. Every invitation should include:

(1) What the event is

(2) The date of the event

(3) Where the event is taking place

(4) The time the event is to start

(5) A phone number for guests to RSVP

As a general rule of thumb, the more elaborate the event, the earlier invitations should go in the mail. For a retirement party, or a baby or wedding shower, I recomend that invitations go out at least 3 weeks prior to the date on the invitations. For a birthday party, try two weeks. Of course for weddings, the invitations should be out at least two months prior to the wedding.

I'd fly a pony.

It will depend on the time/date of the frames though. I haven't been able to make an event, other than an occasional KOTH, yet.

those who have committed, and chosen a ride and been assigned to a unit

so you got units already assigned in chosen rides and have a commitment from the players, what happens when u open the registration up to the rest?

if the units are already assigned, then it seems it will be slim pickings to get a chance to fly what you want to fly.......

I  have flown alot of scenarios, but to make a post like this in public  just may shun some people away from the event.....if  they read it the way I have

pre assigned/determined P38 groups before registration opens
pre assigned/determined P-47 groups
pre assigned / determined P-51 groups........

whats left?

I want to be a gunner!!!
I want to be a buff pilot!!!
I want to fly the goon!!!

just  need some clarification,  Roc /  Treize.........

the way he typed it out in the opening post is  kind of saying hey, we are hand picking and filling spots before registration is opened to the public.....

I know this is not how he meant to come across, but that is how it reads...

just saying...

might be able to pull a group of Damned together to fill a P-51 unit....that is when the official registration is opened up  ;)

All of it is important; most of it vital; and all of it just too much for one brain to absorb in 1-2 lessons" TC

I think that the P51 will be the most popular ride once registration opens up. I think Treize is just freaking out a bit :P

The fact that there ARE so many P51s means folks are not in a rush. The restricted #s of P47s and P38s means the folks that want these rides are all rushing to get in before they're full. That is the only reason they are filled before the P51s. Don't worry, the ponies will have pilots, too!

The word was for those of us in GL postions to spread the word and lets see if we can start nailing down folks who will commit to flying this thing

So we went for it full blast.  One of the Joys of SAPP is I have tons of P38 pilots involved so when I got the 474th I put the word out and guys are willing to commit.

I know the 109 and 190 guys as well as the Jug and 51 guys are actively recruiting people.

I don't think it's a bad thing.  When registration opens there are that many more bodies who want in beyond the folks we've been trying to recruit, we can expand the numbers to get them in.

One of the concerns I think as the lack of attendence in previous scenarios so getting a jump on it with folks you can count on is a way to try and head off a lack of participation.

Squaddie of mine, "Trog" is interested in flying a P-51. I don't know if he's commited, or wants to find out who he can wing with, or what, but send him a PM and see what can be set up.

P.S. Trog if you see this, you're welcome :aok

This seems a little strange. The main AH Events page says registration is not open and the dates aren't even confirmed.

Happen to read this thread, and not only are the dates confirmed, but registration is open and some squadrons are full?

I can see what you are trying to do, but those of us who don't read many general discussion threads on the BBS and want to take part, might not have a fair crack at this one.

There's far more room left open than there is "full"... I think perhaps just the way people are describing it is getting out of hand. The actual registration page won't be up til this Wednesday (I think), but if somebody has command of "squadron X" flying "plane Y" then they'd get some folks they know like that plane, invite them to that squad, get commanders, XOs, and 'regular pilots' in place so that the roster's built. Then when they sign up the CO doesn't have any problems placing them -- they've already been placed by their squadron commander.

It's much simpler than folks think. Several folks have been confused about this "pre-registration" stuff... It just means making an agreement on where you'll be placed ahead of time. I think the whole thing needs a new PR campain because it's confusing folks more than it ought .:D
