nVidia GeForce 8600 GT
« on: October 24, 2007, 11:56:31 PM »
I was looking to buy one of these and found one one on ebay for a "Buy it now" price of $108. Problem is that I was told by someone that because it only has a "memory bus" of 128-bit its not worth it. I only have about a day and a half to deside to buy it or not and would like to know from some of you who know what all these specs mean.

I highly do not recommend any dx10 card that is sub $250.  The $100 versions will not play dx10 games very well.  If you're going to play dx8 and dx9 games 90% of the time (like AH), stick with a 7xxx series card.  For Nvidia, the cheapest card I can recommend is the 8800 GTS 320mb version (about $260, cheapest).

Don't be mislead by the '8600'.  A 8600 is not like a 7600 in the 7xxx series.

So what do you recommend? I heard a 7950 was good but I was also looking at a 76 or 7800. Right now I have a 6200. Im upgrading my computer Iv already got a new hard drive and anouther GB of RAM. Its just I dont know what the best videocard to get. The only game that I really play is AH so I need one that can run it with good quality.

i have a 7600gs in one comp, and a 7900gtx in another. both run AH well. of course the 7900 does it a lot better. with the 7600 i run 512 textures, the 7900 runs 1024 with the hi-res pack. just depends on what you want to spend. i do agree with Fulmar though, if your going to get an 8xxx series card, go 8800.
