I was glad when Hitech finally turned off the unrealistic external view back a few months ago. It really negated the rear view limitations experienced with some fighters.

For some reason this external view was left on for bombers and C47 planes.

To make this excellent flight sim realistic external views should really be turned off in all on line planes. Off line it might be nice to have.

I agree it should be off for the C47 but hey....I use it too

In a B17, however, in RL you had 6 other sets of eyes helping you scan the skies for incoming bogies. For most of us online in buffs, its just your two peepers.

I say lose it for the goon, keep it for the buffs.

Actually in a B-17, you had 10 pairs of eyes, always scanning and searching...

you also had 12 guns firing...

Count yourself lucky only bearing guns fire, and the time to switch and aquire you again as you pass is so slow..

I'm not much of a bomber type but I'm with Dingy. A pilot of a bomber could use that extra set of eyes that the feature helps simulate.

Those extra eyes were also helping to keep formation

Actually you didn't have 12 guns firing, only 10 to 11 guns at time were able to.
There is 4 guns in the chin, turret and 2 single guns, both sides of chin.
You were not able to use another of those, just because there were two mens

Then to another matter, there were crew of 10, but you did not have 10 pairs of eyes scanning, because radio operator doesnt see much out and navigator usually keeps eyes on the map and lets bombadier do that

OK, you guys sold me on that. I now agree that the external view does take the place of all the exta eyes and is realistic.
