good or bad
« on: August 09, 2007, 06:47:31 AM »
i had been doing some image work for a guy who, after a ridiculous amount of wrangling, has only paid me 60% of the balance and has dragged it on and on with various lame excuses for why he cant pay or why he didnt drop payment by and pick it up like he had said that he would.  i have not delivered a finished product as a result, but it has been completed for some time now.  and i have already done the work which he seems to think is gratis.

so tonight i ran into him and listened to yet another excuse and i was just going to shrug it off until i saw a smug little smirk on his face as i was leaving.  he,  throwing his arms behind his head and making no small show of his comfort with being such a jerk.  (albiet a very large, linebacker sized one)

so...i popped open my laptop and i sat there in the parking lot, converting copies of all of the files that i had made for him by shaving off the unpaid 40% of the image in large chunks taken right off the side of each.  i burnt the new files on a disc and went back and handed it to him and said,  "this is 60% of the work that i  have done for you, you can have the rest when you've paid for the rest of the work that i've already done."

he knows where to find me.

I dunno dude, sounds like a maybe lawsuit type of thing there. one of those "he said, he said" deals.

personally I would only do cash and carry. simple no hassles, they pay all the cash at once, then they can take what they buying.

simple as pay me XXXX amount then you get XXXX.  if they want to haggle over price tell'em XXXX take it or leave it. if they agree, then after you done and they want to haggle. tell'em they have XXXX amount of time (like 2 weeks) to pay for it or it gets deleted or sold to someone else.

guys like him are a dime a dozen. personally I'd throw his 60% back at him then walked out and delete it all. if he came whining , too late. it is gone. then tell him to take a hike and don't come back. to me this is the best way to deal with his kind.
once they learn you won't be pushed around..... well you'll figure it out.

YMMV

ya.  thats about how i feel about it.

its not really worth my time to fudge with it.  i just get tired of people who won't even try to keep their word.

i think that he thought that he would have 60% of the total completed work as opposed to pieces cut into unusable swaths of the full items.

he may be surprized.

WTG! I'd have done the same.
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

I wouldn't have even given him the 60%. I'd have shown him what it looks like and told him that just like in the store, you pay on delivery or no product.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

what's he going to do?  rebuild the missing 40% himself?

naw.  he's probably going to take it to one of his buddies who will mimick it best he can.

i feel that i gave him what i was paid for...therefore i kept my end.

now he's going to have to work it out.

I would have thrown in a free subscription of "Gay Freedom Lifestyles" for him.
