question about sound packs
« Reply #15 on: July 29, 2007, 08:32:18 PM »
I simply have a folder in My Documents called "AH Backup Files". Then inside of it, I have otehr folders: Waffle Sounds; Mitsu Sounds; Fruda Sounds; TwinBoom Sounds V4; TwinBoom Sounds V3; TwinBoom Sounds V2; Sights; Skins; Skins 2(the ones from AH-Skins.com); Ranger Sounds; AH Sounds; Eskimo Sounds; ahiiterr; squads; and maps. A back-up of every folder in AH, and then folders for each soundpack. It works very well. I also have a folder in My Documents named AH TE Files, which contains the back up files for the tiles, programs, and objects for the TE.

I hope that when TB's update is ready, a sticky is immediately  made of them.  I check here almost daily looking for his updated sounds.  I have tried them all, except for Fruda's (which I could never get to download) and although the other sounds are good, I believe that Twinboom's sounds are the best.  However that is just my opinion.    I am looking forward to his update.

Trying to get these sounds on AOL is heck. I've only been able to get Ranger's, Fruda's, Mitsu's, Eskimo's, TwinBoom's V2, and Waffle's. The downloads keep stopping and not completing, which is really frustrating when you get 90% of a 100MB file ad it just stops. Turning off the firewall doesn't help, and neither does anything else I know of, but suggestions are appreciated. I wish I could get these sound packs and try them.

Haha, tell me about it. You think it's hard to search for AH-ready sounds that were recorded from actual aircraft? Try getting the source files to make those sounds. That's why my updates are few and far between. That said, I've got a batch of great stuff coming (still no BMW-801 radial sounds, at least not complete ones, and don't even think there's going to be a Jumo inline pack anytime soon). I still have to flight test all of it, though.

And a bit of more good news: I'll be uploading my packs as double sets. Each pack will contain External and Internal sounds, so you can easily switch between whichever sounds you want. If you're looking for the utmost cockpit realism, use the internal packs --- or, if you're a GV user, you might try the external packs so you can really experience the aircraft buzzing overhead.

As of my writing this, I have complete sources for the following engines: Daimler-Benz 600 series, Rolls-Royce Merlin and Griffon series, Pratt & Whitney R-1820, R-2600, and R-2800 series, and Allison inline series (both for the Warhawk [also suitable for the Yaks, as they were the same engine, just with much more difficult serviceability and very poor parts] and the P-38).

I do have some Japanese radial sound sets, but they may or may not be dubious, so I won't be releasing them until I'm certain they're authentic. Even still, my current sources fill most of the planeset as it is... But it's a shame that I can't locate any complete, authentic German radial sound sets. Well, aside from the early BMW used on the Ju-52, but since we don't even have that plane yet...
