1/2 the people complaining on this board are ticked because AH & tactics don't resemble what happened in WWII, the other half of the complainers don't like it because AH & tactics do resemble what happened in WWII.

I usually climb to between 12-20k per sortie these days.  It's about the only place in the MA you can hope to find a 1v1 or 1v2.

Then again, there's not too many sorties that don't end with my flying on the deck before too long

I stripped down a P-47 and added 3 exernal fuel tanks, turning it into a flying gas can.

I first flew over the bishop front at 31K.  Very uneventful.  From one end of the front to the other I found little up that high except one set of B24's at 25K heading back to bomb our strats.

I then re-upped and flew over the rook front at 31K....I found:

3 sets of heavy bombers 25K+ (B-17's and B24's)
3 sets of heavy bombers 30K+ (B24's)
3 P51's (30K+)
2 Corsairs (30K+)
1 P47N (30K+)

I was jumped by the two corsairs and one pony who were at least 3 K higher than my 31K, and was killed.

I dunno...it could possibly be squeekers who will hopefully dissapear at the end of the month...but AltMonkeyism is a pretty sad disease to have.

I am sorry, but I just don't buy it.  I have flown many flights buff hunting at 17 to 20 K and RARELY see anyone higher, and never fellow rooks over rook land at that alt.

To allege 30+ K fighters just cruising around seems a tad hard to swallow.   Take a corsair to 34K and fly it.  It's not fun...not even in a 51.

Good story though.....

Take up a P47 with droptanks sometime.

Watch the dar.

You will find PLENTY of your fellow rooks 25, 30, and 35K.

As someone who jumps the fence from time to time to fly with other countries, I just can say: You will find Rooks, Bish and Knights at 25k. No big difference.

I am with you on this one Lusche.  Fly what you want when you want and where you want.  What a lame thing to complain about.  Just like people complaining about people flying spit 16s, LA-7s, and Nikis.  Give me a break they could fly them to if they wanted.

You might find a few of any country at any alt...but not over 30K......except in extreme rare cases.

In the end, I ask, "So what?"

I fly a 51, dont' go above 8k and I fly for whatever team has the fewest numbers.  I guess I am an exception to the flock? Oh ya, and I have fun. :)

Most p51's aren't much of a threat to shoot you down, are they? I am of the opinion(feel free to disagree, it's merely an opinion) that many of the 51 fliers are relatively unskilled, compared to the rest of the average guy in the MA.  Of course their are some notable exceptions who are adept in 51 these days, my buddies Skat and Bucky are a couple of come to mind off the top of my head. Good sticks and good guys both.  No slight at other accomplished sticks, just don't feel like typing a long list.

I've also found people at 30K plus, but the only reason I've been that high, is going afk for a beer, and a leak, and maybe stepping outside for a smoke, then another beer, then oh dogfights is on, sweet it's that crazy IAF guy... etc etc.

I have to wonder if all those other dorks have similar routines, and if we  don't all wind up in the ackackosphere quite by accident.

Yes I fly  buffs at 20k simply because I don't get intercepted all that often.  If you must it is a survival thing.  Everybody else is furballing on the deck.

As to fighters, yes at that altitude I don't have to worry about eLgays or HOicanes.  60% of my frustration for this game can be attributed to those 2 fighters.  At that altitude the P-47 starts to come into its own, and really shine.

One of the best fights I ever had was at 25K+ in a P-38 vs. 2 P-51D's I was flying solo, they were winging, and even though I lost, it was a good dogfight.

I just started flying again after taking about a 3 year break from the game. I find about the only way to get a decent dogfight these days is to fly around between 15 and 20k and look for that loner circling a furball. I usually end up losing because, well, I still suck, but hey, at least it's fun.

The reality of this game is you're not going to find realistic WW2 fights except in a scenario. If that's what you want, fly the special events, that's what I used to live for. After all is said and done, you can't really complain too much about the MA... it is what it is, and it won't change.

Regards,
