I keep trying to get the missus knocked up so we can save the $10k or so our permanent residence application is likely to end up costing us. She still wont let me near her though
Seriously, I agree with Lazs on this - unless one of the parents is American, the child isn't American. Would more or less solve the anchor baby problem overnight. I'd be mighty peeved if Britain granted citizenship to babies of immigrants just off the boat.
That said, if we were to have a child right now, it would have dual British / US citizenship and the opportunity to live anywhere here or in the EU would be fantastic.
One last word to anyone who thinks it is too easy to immigrate to the US. Try it. It is anything but easy. Unless you are super rich, have skills the US government is seeking, investing significantly in a US company or are necessary senior management employing Americans, forget it. In almost all cases, visas (both immigrant and non-immigrant) have annual quotas. Once that runs out, it doesn't matter how good an applicant your are - you aren't getting in. This years quota for the most common non-immigrant visa - the H1B - was used up in less than 24 hours after their release.
You may believe there are too many people being granted permanent residence, but for those who got it, I can guarantee it wasn't an easy process.
Anyway, until the illegal immigration problem is solved, legal immigration is the least of your worries.
