Gents,

to Dastardly who outflew me not less than three times in his ME110 vs my F4U.

Should an F4U engage a low and slow ME110 in a turn fight in the canyons?

Nope! But I did...because it was fun!

The reason it was fun was because I had to fly my aircraft at the limits of stall...and then judge my energy level against the potential shot I may...or may not have.

Dastardly flew his ME110 with perfection.

Ahh yes, I have flown against him in my 190.  Good times any time we fight, he is one of the rare few that actually give some fight and not mindlessly HO and ram.  (though I believe we did collide once because an overshot was forced and at that time we were literally so colse to eachother and to the water we could have caught a fish.  But hey rubbing is raceing....)

Yep, Dast has got that 110 down fo sho. I've fought him twice, once in a co-alt Niki, and once in a 38J when I had the upper hand. I died both times. Both fights were great fun and he flys with honor and skill. He has taught me that if I see a 110, check the roster if he is on, and if he is, approach with caution for death is in the air :noid

A good fight is a good fight (win or lose)....that's why I play. sad thing is, ya don't find many....but when you do, it's worth talking about.

Couple of months ago I encountered a  Me110 about 4k below my Typhoon. My grin was ear to ear as I thought..."hmmm, this should be a piece of cake." After a couple of failed slash attacks on my part, the 110 pulled up and over on me with turn tighter than a Zeke. Next thing, my brains are splattered all over the canopy and parts are dropping into the sea below. It was Dastardly.

Tonight I got shot down in a 234. What happened was I came in to low to any airfiled and the flack got one engine. I saw an F4 in my rear view hanging up in the sun with energy on me but I figured I had him anyway at least to make the drop. With one engine I shot off RATOs and used altitude to keep my speed up. It was a horse race across several sectors and I probably would have got away except a P-51 came in and finished me. I just couldnt keep enough speed up.

                           They deserved the win and it was exciting.

Found an EXCELLENT fight tonight in Orange arena. Bish were tryin to take back the north and us rooks were fightin strong. Amazingly most of the planes I saw for rooks were P51s and P38s, and the bish were mostly in 190s and 109s, with an exception of a 152 and a few british planes. I was in a Pony D flying 10K to our base, I had upped from behind the fight, and found myself in a 12K fight over the base with bish 190s, 109s, and a hurri and C205. I dove on the C2, who was at 10K which was 2k below me. He dove and we were having a fun 400-500mph fight on the deck. I finally got him and saw a friendly being persude by a enemy 109. I came in low and fast, went underneath them, pulled up and blasted the 109. Unfortunatly the friendly died before I could save him. Three of us gave chase to a running 190, My pony, smpson in a pony and another guy in some other plane (i cant recall). Found ourselves over the enemy vehicle base, still chasing the 190, another wave of (still german planes) enemy coming in, and a 152 coming at us. The 152 tryed to cut in behind smpson and I blasted him one. We then had a good ole fashion dogfight with the 190 (2 pony's and the 190).

That fight was fun as hell. I never had such a great time. all whom were there. :aok

Real 110's were meat for anything, but if all such things were set that way, game wouldn't be as fun

In terms of performance, the F4U (any model) will seriously abuse a Bf 110G-2. The F4Us turn smaller circles, roll much faster and are downright amazing in a stall fight.

That said, if I find a low and slow fighter, I'll not blow my E, but run the other guy completely out of E and kill him at my leisure. Attempting to slow down will invariably place you at risk, simply because you will give up angles while burning down your E to get flaps out.

If you want to practice this, swing by the TA Tuesday thru Thursday evening (9 to 11 PM Eastern). I'll be the low and slow guy. Also look for TC in the TA. If you visit the DA, look for Dedalos. He's accomplished in the F4U and will often take time to work with pilots.

Just remember one thing. Never willingly surrender an E advantage, not even when flying a Zero. The low and slow guy wants nothing more than to equalize E states...

well thanks for the good words

just to clairify things.....i fly the 110 "C" which is quite different than the "G" in many ways. as a few r finding out :)

so dont be fooled...G is as easy as it everbeen lol
