I did some basic testing of the B-25H cannon last night.

Here's a few facts we discovered.

You can sit behind a formation of heavy bombers and pick them off with the cannon at ranges out to 2,000 yards. I fired 8 rounds at 2k to score 3 hits. One hit is more than enough. Closing to 1,500 yards, I needed 5 rounds to score 3 hits. Practiced using .target command. At 2k, aim for upper ring to get bullseye. At 1.5k, aim mid-way between 2nd and 3rd ring. There's no defense against this for buff pilots, other than to maneuver the formation.

One issue. The cannon fires with the all guns trigger unless you have bombs aboard and select the bombs instead. I use secondary trigger to squeeze off cannon rounds.

Those 8 fifties will shred anything that gets in the way. Very concentrated firepower.

Widewing: I was getting more assists last night than kills. Lots of hits in concentrated areas, but apparently scattered, doing no damage.

Quite annoying that!

Seemed weaker than normal 50cals, even though there were more of them. Got only 2 kills (after many repeated hits) and 3 assists (after several good hits).

Don't know if this is true, stats-wise, but they felt weaker.

I only played around with it briefly last night, but I'm impressed. She may "only" have the same 8 .50cal as the P-47, but all those guns are centered in the nose. Adding the punkin' chucker makes for one NASTY hail of lead on-target.

Any vehicle that's not significantly armored (Ostwinds, PTs, M-3s, 8s and 16s, and jeeps) is in trouble.

I spent a lot of time laughing maniacally last night. Aside from my DGS plane, this is my new baby. I can't tell if I've hit anything air to air (aside from a point blank HOram and a KS) with the 75mm, but this thing is a riot.

But of course I do.  I do wonder how many people drove their planes into the sea last night that don't. :D

I'm particularly amused to see how many guys who were disparaging of the Mitch being added who have now completely reversed their opinion. :D

Took a trial run to see how the 25H fairs against towns.

Took 8X250 lbs bombs and flew at 1K over a24 MW.   first pass ack knocked out both engines but managed to take out 5 bldgs and 2 ack.  Circled around as a glider nose down and took out 8 more bldgs with both engines being dead.

This is the new town killer.

Pilots hated the 75mm cannon.  It was hard to aim and the recoil slowed the plane by 50-60mph.  When speed is life that is a no-no.  The 75mm was intended to be used against shipping and only when the plane was moving very fast. Against most ground targets what all those 50cals couldn't handle the 500lb bombs did.

To bad AW doesn't model the effects of recoil.  Most B-25 tank busters would get off one shot, stall and have a very unhappy meeting with mother earth.

Maybe AW didn't, but I know for a fact AH does.

Start your engine, throttle up just enough to disengage wheel locks, but not to move forward, and fire all guns in a P-47. You'll go backwards as much as 10mph if you hold the trigger down long enough!
