Postal Service Sneaks Away Sidewalk Boxes

Not to dismiss the whole point of this thread, but it does my heart good to see it.

With the "World According To Media"  falling down around our heads, we still indulge in the luxury of being concerned over the locations of mailboxes.

We have it far better than people are 1) Aware Of.  2) Believe.  3) Are willing to accept without guilt.

And, for the record, I have a community box in my front yard that the 12 neighbors all use.  Waste of a good parking space for me, but it's more secure than the corner box, I can Get and Receive packages, and my letters are secure.

That's the trend, Local Corner Boxes are not suitable for the current climate we live in.  (No, not because they create global warming, the Security Climate  )
ROC
Nothing clever here.  Please, move along.

When you move into a house, they will come.

That's even if you got your mail.
Write your Congress ppl about that one!

P.S. We do pick your letters up from your home boxes!

Oz, while you paint a worst case scenario I completely agree with you. I believe rural carriers are contract, but it's fixed rate. You usually don't see much turnover with them.

If I lived in a metro area I definitely wouldn't want the lowest bidder digging thru my mail everyday.

LePaul, you might want to see if you can lay your hands on one of these!

Oh yeah, we've had those mailboxes out and about for quite some time.     My friends said I should take a picture of mine next to one...nah, too much dang work lugging him out there.

Right now I'm trying to figure out the magic and electronics of limit switches.  Fun stuff.
