GV's Modelling.
« on: August 25, 2007, 01:53:22 PM »
Right To start I will say this loud and clear I SUCK IN GV's now thats done with, tell me how a tiger can 3 AP shells at point blank range and survive. I was in panzer. 1 shot on front where turret meets armor slope. 1 shot on right Track and one shot directly on the rear when the guy had no clue I was there.

Player in question is yerdog not that it matters.

Next I up a sherman and whilst moving through the side of a tree the tank miraculously ropples over on the twigs and branches NOT THE TREE trunk. im pretty sure in the real world that doesnt happen.

What the hell is going on with the modelling of the tiger first of all and SECONDLY the modelling of the trees and other eye candy - including sheep.

I actually thought yerdog was in a Tiger it seems he was in a Panzer, so how come his panzer takes 3 AP shells from my Panzer at point blank, yet each time he shoots me i die in 1 shot ?

Better shot placement?

A film would be required for any analysis. Right now we can only speculate.

I'm no expert on gv's but I believe a Panzer has thicker armour and shots might tend to richochet.

That being said, the gv's model is slightly .... "different".

Well, dont know about your ability to kill panzers; do know that trees are harder then steel; but please, what do you have against sheep?

Tigers are capable of taking several shots from a panzer at close range.  Same goes for panzer Vs panzer - it all comes down to shot placement.  No matter what you drive - tiger, M4, T34, panzer, shot placement is the most important.  I've have many shots bounced off my panzer or M4 from tigers and get a 1 shot kill on them.  Next I hear on 200 is why didn't I die first.  All I can say is "Shot Placement."  I can kill a T34 with 1 shot if I hit the right area - just need to practice and learn the sweet spots.

I've had AP panzer shots bounce off greyhounds and halftracks at close range. I've scored straight-on hits on halftrack engines with no noticible effect or smoking.
Sometimes the server just serves up some seemingly screwy results. It's probably much more noticible in slow-moving GVs. You gotta wonder what we'd be noticing if air to air was run in slow motion.

trust what he is sayin he does know a little bit about gvin.

that being said, like one person posted on here with out film to view we cant say much but shot placement. a T-34 vs T-34 can kill each other with one shot just depends where you place the shot.

on a diffrent hand i did notice some strange things with GVs. i was spawn camping a VH on a Vbase and someone kept upping an M-16 and my M4 rounds kept bouncing off of the m16s rearend. but i popped him as he turn from the front of the hanger.

With out vid hard to tell. but im going to echo. "shot placement". It is critical for one shot kills. Also the fine line changed to an finer line when Balistics where changed. Distance was some what critical, but more so now.

Not all hits are the same.
Search the threads someone posted them. ITS a interesting to look at the data.

I have recently had several close range shots (d250/300) on M3's and M16's, where I hit the upper sides of the rear compartment (troop area) with no damage to the vehicle. I have to assume this comes down to a shot placement issue, as well.

Although, I don't like it, I envision the AP round traveling through both sides of the troop carrying area, and just leaving a big hole. No damage done, just a hole.

Next shots were in the engine area, they go BOOM.:aok

I use HE on semi-hard vehicles (M3, M16's and Jeeps).  Hit even close to them and they go boom!

Pyro had said something about the virtual model of the Panzer having two layers on it in places.  When the first layer is hit and penetrated, you will see a hit sprite on your front end, but that does not mean it penetrated the second layer and into the hull.  So effectively it is possible to see a hit sprite when your shot didn't actually penetrate the armor.

He also said the the GV damage and armor penetration model is the most complex in the game.  A very minor difference on the angle of impact can mean the difference of penetrating or not penetrating the armor.
