Just got back from Grand Cayman last night.  I love that place.  Hadn't been there in about 11 years, and it was just as great as I remembered it.  (though it was built up more)

People are friendly, and 7 mile beach is great.  The water along seven mile beach is calm, warm and inviting.  The sand is white, soft and not loaded with trash and seaweed.  

Won't wait another 11 years to go back, that is for sure.    :aok

The place is not cheap, but this trip was a work trip, so all expenses were paid, that is the good part.  The wife went, and all I had to pay for her was her food, the airfare is free, and I already have the hotel room and rental car.

If you want a cool place to go, with warm inviting water and a friendly people, go to the Caymans.

Now I just have to readjust to snow.  :(

Yeah, I loved going to the Caymans. At one time I sold advertising to the hoteliers there.

Great vacation spot; people much more friendly than most of the rest of the Carribean, IMO.

Ever since they tore down the old holiday inn on 7 mile beach it just hasn't been the same...I enjoyed it much more prior to it becoming a massive tourist location over the past decade.......

On a more pleasant note, did you have any barefoot man sightings?

I just remember things like cologne and perfume being really cheap.

Loved it last time I was there.   The wife and I went snorkeling on 7 Mile Beach...there is an old smuggler's ship that had been sunk offshore to make an artificial reef in about 100' of water...just off the old Holiday Inn...

WOW....because the water is SO clear there, you get the unnatural illusion that you are "falling" over the ship...scarry, as I am afraid of heights.

Since I was there last, they have added a number of swanky casinos.

Going to Vegas in three weeks....

Guess I'll have to pretend I'm in Cayman.

I have stayed at the old Holiday Inn in the past, and I think you are referring to the ship the Oro Verde.   Where the Holiday Inn sat is now a Ritz Carlton where they have condos and hotel rooms.  The condos are on the beach side of the road, and the hotel rooms are on the far side of the road, reached by an overhead skywalk.  Average price of the Ritz condo is about 2.9 million, with some going up to 6 mil.  Lone Star restaurant is still up the street.

I stayed at Courtyard, a mile or two north of the Ritz, very nice place.

Brag brag brag, rub it in.  Enjoy GC while it lasts.  Before long GC will be just a diving site as global warming brings me a beachfront right to Northern Virginia.

Had my honeymoon planned for there in July 2005...  Then Hurricane Ivan intervened...

Don't know why, but we didn't get around to taking too many pics.  I didn't take a camera, but the wife did, and she didn't use it much.  Here are a few we did get.



Shot from Georgetown restaurant one day when we were eating lunch.  It was a quiet day as no cruise ships were in, that made for a nice time to be downtown.

 
Just a shot down at the water from where we sat at the outside tables during that lunch.  Don't know how well it shows up, but the water is clear and color is beautiful.


Viewed ahead, that light brown building with the skywalk is the Ritz Carlton I mentioned, that is where the Holiday Inn used to be.  On the right is the beach side, and as I understand it, is the very expensive condos.  On the left side, the hotel rooms.  At least that is what I was told, I couldn't afford to stay there.
