HOLD THE PHONE!! B-26 change??
« Reply #15 on: September 04, 2007, 11:20:38 PM »
Sweet, i tested the beefed up buff yesterday in the MA and it now hauls arse around 15-20K  I had a p38 that felt frisky and tried to git me so I went into a shallow dive and jumped in my turrets and waited fer him to close in real sneaky like. Then I opened up on him, apearently I hit him hard enough to scare him or PW him, because he gave up and left.  All the while I was at or above 300MPH.

Simaril:

They modeled it after SOMETHING in the first place. That means they had SOME charts that said "270mph" (or whatever). They made it do that.

Now why, all of a sudden, do they just up and make it a fracking monster all the way up to 20k? OBVIOUSLY they had charts the first time around that said differently, and now they just (at the drop of a hat?) reverse their previous stance and make it uber?

It's without precedent in HTC history!

What the heck? What are we talking, here? This wasn't a high-alt bomber. I'm hoping we're talking only a little bit, and not some sweeping change.
Where does it say 'high altitude'?

dong dong, -1 point for badkarma

Other posts (including one by WW I think) mentioned how the B-26 performs like a monster up even at 20k+ -- alts it could almost never reach before. Historically it was NOT a high-alt monster, so why should it be now?

Ive never flown it about 15,000' and mostly keep it at 12,000'. Once bombs are dropped the Marauder hits 300 mph, "thank you AH". Since the improvement Ive probably flown the 26 more then any other bomber, "mind you I flew it quite a bit beforehand". I love flying this airplane now.

And now I devised a tactic to defeat a fighter doing the "low angle in the rear and climb under the tail gun" attack. If I time it right hes going to be looking down the barrels of 3 dual-0.50s a lot sooner then he thinks. I fried a spit tonight doing exactly that. People forget that rear gun has 1,600 rounds in it.

The key to the tactic is the extra energy the B-26 now has in the game. The Marauder is now my medium/short range bomber 100% of the time, unless I'm running around in my 234.

Its just a superb Aces High bomber now.:aok

Was probably a bug.

Or in all reality, crusty.. just to piss YOU off! :aok (joking)
Hard to argue what should be right, when every dang thing we have here is a screaming rape-ape of what was mostly incounterd.

our carriers are ballz out 24/7
our bombers fly at 100% 24/7
out fighters dont suffer any of the engine weaknesses or faults they did in real life.

Feal lucky.
If anything the 26 FINALY got some nads, same with our moss.
Lets face it, most people go screaming into battle 350+ mph almost every time.

The thing needed it.

ALSO, this is a game..and some things just need to be balanced, with the 25 we need a REASON to fly the 26, and that is better speed, and a few more bombs.
Spend half your time trying to figure out a way to find and intercept these APARENT ubber bombers of yours, and you would have less time to come here.

The 26 often goes into heavily defended tactical targets as well. Case in point, I just flew into a front-line airfield with 1,000lb bombs. Actually I flew 2 such missions but got shot down in the first one. Between the 2 runs I shot down 4 bogeys, "tho I describe a mission as a success as actually landing". The 2nd one was typical B-26. All shot to pieces hurtling down to the nearest airfield on one engine, "and that one smoking", and somehow the airplane getting you home.

As I was running for my life, with 5 bandits chasing me, I was thinking about this thread.. The extra horsepower is a small perk and one that makes the game better I think. It must be so cause the most hair-raising runs I have are in the Marauder. I dont know how I survived a few of them.

I have been flying the B-26 since Beta 1.  It was always a sweet ride, but the last two patches, something was wrong with it when it was above 10'000 feet.  It got very sluggish compared to previous versions.

I always thought the B-26 was a fast bird at 15-20k in AHI.  In AHII, it became lethargic at altitude to the point where it was painful to fly.  A C-47 was more entertaining.

Anyways, I'm with Widewing - they fixed the bug.  She's still a gem. :aok

Im starting to call the 26 my "screw you airplane". Yes, the enemy might get me. Especially since I take the bomber into such heavily defended airspace. But theres going to be a lot of wrecked enemy fighters in its wake. Yesterday I must have killed 10 in the thing and sent as many running for home smoking. I shot 5 in a row in the space of a minute or two. They just kept lining up like ducks in the "6" of my Marauders.

With the extra speed Im seeing that more and more. Many guys who would never line up in the 6 are now doing so. Most of all when there are a lot of planes in the air and sticks are greedy for bomber kills, and, dont want another friendly stealing them from them.
