What does it have to do with being a network admin, anyway?

What sucks is the assignment formulas arent even in the textbook, and the online explanation is about as useful as a pile of grass clippings. You know there is a use for it somehow, but you dont really know what to do with them.

No wonder half the class drops out after a month

You'd be surprised how handy some VB is, especially for scripting.  Although most of the spots I've used it have been replaced with Active Directory OUs and such.

Its dry, indeed.

It's not the language that's important, it's being able to demonstrate and apply the logical exercises that you end up using in other languages.  I've written stuff in 6 or 7 distinct languages at work, from C++ to Perl to x86 ASM and so on, and the stuff you learn in the beginning can be applied anywhere.  The idea is to "program" your mind to be able to organize a series of instructions that a computer can recognize.

Kinda like a creative writing course.  They're not teaching you to emulate a specific author, the class instructs you on how to get your thoughts together so you can produce a coherent story.

I took a class similar to this in high school 2 years ago.   I got a decent grade in that class but my Spanish III took a hit deep south :cry

VB.NET is pretty cool... started using it three years ago when I changed jobs. Had not previously done any OOP style coding before.

Just getting use to Visual Studio was a chore at first and fixing sync issues with Source Safe is still a bit challanging in certian situations.

I am no expert even now but I can get the job done. Love coding :)

I dont mind the other stuff, but the VB is a required course.  I dont care for programming much and I dont have the smarts to figure it out.  If I get it to work, then thats good. If I dont, then I dont.

I did find out that them online loan calculators are all different.

I tried 5 of them last night to get an idea of what my answer should be, and all 5 gave a different answer when the exact same parameters were entered.

Gotta love it

You ought to have tried my college computer language course. It was Fortran and it's a bi**h punching and checking those data cards.

I have a big enough headache with this. I just dont have th mindset of a programmer though.

I finally got it working though. Had to go with a totally different formula
