Getting FIOS in a few days
« on: September 06, 2007, 08:03:30 PM »
Sept 11 will have new meaning for me.
thats when I get FIOS Internet,TV and phone service installed.

I'll be getting 3 boxes set up on 3 TVs 1 in high def. Two standard.
And the Showtime Package.
and unlimited long distance phone service

All for about $30 less then Im paying now for regular phone sevice with AT&T and Comcast internet and TV. With 1 HD box only.
the other TVs only get basic cable

hehe. Cool.

Question.
I've been readind up and one article I read where when Verizon came to install they removed the existing AT&T installation including the box on the outside of the house. Before they installed their phone service.

Now I can understand disconnecting the existing service but removing the junction box and phone wire leading from the pole to the house itself entirely from the house as well?

Anyone else experience this?

Why?

Is there any technical reason for this? or do they just want to make it harder to switch back if you decide not to stay with them?

And if the latter is the case. Can I refuse to let them remove the junction box and wire?

My thinking is they probably just want to make it harder and more expencive due to intallation fees if I decide to change my mind after the contract is up.

I'm an installation contractor for cox cable in Tulsa. I can't say for sure about phone company policy. Normally on an install if it does not have a wire from the pole to the house we install one at no charge for new customers.

I install cox phone and I CANNOT touch or remove any Bell, AT-T, or any other company's box or aerial. Actually I believe once it is attached to your house you "own" it.

So to answer your question.....

Why?

they just want to make it harder to switch back if you decide not to stay with them (possibly against the law for them to remove stuff)

Is there any technical reason for this?

no reason at all, they should install their own box and remove your house wiring from the old box and swing them over to the new one

Can I refuse to let them remove the junction box and wire?

 yes
