I've been working on some major sound pack overhauls for the past week and a half or so, and I've got a lot of good stuff out of it.
For starters, I'll be releasing both Internal and External sounds for applicable files (flaps, gear, check6, etc. don't need externals). This allows the player to select how he or she wants to play the game: pure cockpit realism, or maximum engine noise... And, of course, they can be mixed and matched, so GV players would naturally choose External waves for the aircraft, and Internal waves for their vehicles. It's that simple.
Next, I've got a whole slew of fresh source material --- Radial engines, Inline engines, gun sounds, flap sounds, gear sounds... You name it, I've probably got new material to fit it. Best of all, it's high-quality stuff, so you're going to be getting consistency with each pack you download.
Along with that, I've come a long way in editing and mixing my sound files. Each sound file has been normalised to a 100%, 0db level, so you won't have to turn your speakers up or down when you go from plane to plane. Additionally, my twin/multi-engine aircraft sounds have been normalised so there's no frequency overload, and bomber/attack aircraft pilots get the maximum benefit of authentic engine sounds.
I've worked very hard to make sure that each sound loops smoothly without and distortion, clipping, or popping, and that each wavelength is free of frequency overloads. That said, you can turn your speakers up very high and not hear any distortion --- so high, in fact, that it'll sound like you're right in the cockpit... Though I personally wouldn't recommend doing so.
All said, I'll be releasing one pack first: the P-51 Mustang pack. That should come in a day or so, and after that, the Spitfire pack is next... And then, naturally, the Bf-109 pack. The wait is almost over the truly authentic sounds for Aces High.
