I assume you mean channels 101-299. In which case no, there is no way of knowing except to tune to the channel and check it yourself. Even then give it a week or 2, as a squad may be using it but they just get on the game on weekends. And, even you find an open channel on one certain country, it may be in use on a different country if/when you change.
However, a squad will always have it's own personal squad channel that can not be tuned to from some one outside of the squad.

Howler,

If you are setting up your own squad and want to use squad vox (voice) then use your mouse and change the number thats usually in radio V (101). Just click the arrow and scroll down to chose "squad".

Once you gather your folks into the squad have them do the same and you will all be able to talk privately. No one that is not in the squad can hear.

Alternatively multiple squads sometimes band together for a sortie or two but not necessarily a mission. Just have everyone change to a radio V channel that is not being used. You want to use some number between 101 and 199 for in-country vox.

Hope this helps.

Ask them.

All you have to do is type to them on Squad Text Channel.  They will see the text whether tuned to text or not, by the way.
