The software I used is called Registax. Its freeware.
The camera I use (Skynyx 2-1M) is essientially a high (very) end webcam. So at that image resolution I am taking about 15fps. It can get up to about 60fps for a 100x100 pixel frame.
Other peaple get really astounding results out of modified webcams like the Phillips Toucam.
The secret is to be able to take thousands of short frames to capture bits of stable air. The atmosphere undulates the image through the telescope like you were looking at a picture at the bottom of a swimming pool.
The software, by sorting, grading, and combining the bets bits of the best frames can build up an image of sufficiently good quality and low noise that you can then apply other sharpening algorythims to sharpen it further.
So it only took about 3-4 minutes to actually capture the frames for this picture, even though it too much, much longer to mathmatically crunch through all the pixel data to be able to make something of it.
