Better Terrain Design
« on: September 13, 2007, 02:07:39 PM »
I think that we should get a better Terrain design. What I mean is that when you drive a tank or jeep, the terrain is not just flat land and a small hill and a few trees. I would like to see stuff like city roads and the grass be more like REAL grass, not some grass so short that it is IN the dirt. I can't play anymore, but as soon as I can, I would really like to see that. Also, I read the German Bike. I think it is a great idea!:aok :aok

I am sorry I am boring you. If you don't like the topic please don't post! Why would you just do that for no reason? And I last played it after 1 hour of trying 1 week ago. I don't think your getting what I am saying.

The point is:

The terrain was just updated. Also, the technology required to render grass that isn't just a texture, while available (sounds like you've been playing Elder Scrolls: Oblivion), is probably beyond about 90% of players, ESPECIALLY in this type of online environment (it's why we don't have the type of environment effects that the IL-2 series can take advantage of).

The terrain as it exists serves its purpose. Would more detail be nice? Sure, but HTC has to market for a broad audience, and most people don't have the sort of uber rigs that are able to run with that level of detail on to make it worth doing.

I find that the terrain is a perfect mix of looks and graphics demand. For myself, my computer is 6 years old and can't handle any of the newer games. But with Aces High, I find it looks pretty good and my fps is pretty decent.

My point is, exactly what Saxman said, and when driving GVs there is plenty of bounce for a realistic feel for uneven ground in my own opinion.

The problem is this.

In order for the terrain to look "right" for the Aircraft, it needs to be dotted with things like tree's, bushes, hills, etc. All of which are hard to make look "right" for ground vehicles.

Getting this right for both Aircraft and Vehicles is hard, period.

If you think you can do it better, well go grab the terrain editor and have at it!
But I have to warn you, building a terrain is a long, hard, job. With virtually no rewards, and every one who flys or drives on it will find something wrong with it.

That doesn't happen does it? ;)

mine pc is 8 yrs old with a 4 yr old router :D . top that. that's the only reason i play in H2H, i don't think my pc can handle 50+ furballs. 7 ppl in a room make my  fps go up to 40.  do the math

40 divided by 7 is err about 6.
6 fps per person
6 x 50 = 300 fps. yea.... i don't think so.:D

the game is concentrated on combat, not on shaking the screen.

Titanic, I get less FPS then you do in H2H, mine could handle the MA and is older than yours. You do the math.

You've gone backwards, titanic. The higher your FPS, the BETTER.
