Battle of Britain Airshow (Ottawa Canada) tomorrow
« on: September 15, 2007, 03:45:11 PM »
Anyone living in the Ottawa/Canada region:

Tomorrow (Sept 16, 2007) there will be a special Battle of Britain celebration featuring a small informal airshow consisting of a Spitfire XVI, Hurricane Mk IV and Avro Lancaster - will also be a CF18 (F-18),CC-150 Polaris and CH146 Griffon Helicopter flypast.

Location is the National Aviation Museum located in Rockliffe.  This will be a relatively small/informal event, so it's an excellent change to see some real WWII warbirds in action up close and personal.

Admission is FREE - event starts at 10:15am.

I'm afraid I won't be able to make this, wish I'd have known about it a month ago.

Shamroc, I notice you have -badg- in your signiture, was he in the 417 RCAF in Warbirds?

Sounds cool.
But how do you have a "Battle of Britain" airshow without German planes?

Well they have a Bf109-F, Me163 and Heinkel He 162 Salamander, but alas, those will be on static display.  Many years ago they had a 262, but alas a bunch of drunk vets poured gasoline on it and torched it. :(

Yessir - as a matter of fact I was a founding member of that squadron (as "shamrock"), along with Redcoat, -badg-, friar, Slayer and Mosquito  back in 1993.  We flew in DOS Airwarrior in those years, then came over for the Confirmed Kill beta which turned into Warbirds (circa 1995).  I quit virtual flying after -badg- died in 1999 and concentrated on Real Life.  Played a little Warbirds and AH1 as a lone wolf in the early 2000s, then came back permanently to AH2 in 2004.

-badg- was a great guy - went to his place in Carleton Place for his big squad get together (1998?) - still have the camcorder tape of that event - guys flew/drove in from around the country and we had a great time.  Learned how to fly with those guys - real great bunch of guys -badg- was like the "old man" of the squadron - nicest virtual pilot I ever met.

Small world. I flew with the 417 RCAF from early 2000 with Redcoat, Mixl, Muzz, Wildcat, Jocko and others ( the list gets long ) up till this spring when I made the move to AH2.
They're still active in the S3s but there are only 3 left, Muzz, Wildcat and Beaver.
We are still in touch and they are a great group of people.
As far as I know, -badg-s site is still up somewhere through a link that Muzz has.
Good to make your aquaintance, see you in the arenas.

I knew Wildcat and just met Muzz once - both of them joined right around the time I wasn't flying much anymore.... I remember Wildcat was a really good P-51 stick on Warbirds 98.  Muzz was just starting, but you could tell he was going to get good quick (he was an F-18 navigator in real life at the time).

That was a great squadron - never met a tighter squad - like, everyone met each other in person - some guys would even fly across Canada to come to local get togethers - and when -badg- died, the pallbearers were squad members... Despite that, nobody took the squad too seriously and it was always informal - nobody ever tried to be the big boss.

In the old days when we started the squadron, I was the young squirt of the gang (23 years old) - don't know how they put up with me back then... Now I'm a much wiser/easier going 37 year old :)

Time flies...
