Rather amazing stuff.  The pilot really set her down nicely.

we are led to believe that this type of thing is easy, as we can do it in AH2. in real life however that is a nerve racking and dangerous landing, well done pilot.

There were times when the ball turret gunner was trapped and the pilot was forced to make a belly landing. Not an easy thing to do.

Apparently, one in five people in the world are Chinese. And there are five people in my family, so it must be one of them. It's either my mum or my dad. Or my older brother, Colin. Or my younger brother, Ho-Chan-Chu. But I think it's Colin. - Tim Vine.

Actually, a similar concept aircraft (4 props), the C-130 was belly landed many times in Viet Nam.  It was not considered anything special.  Except for the noise, one hardly could tell the difference in the landings.

Now, the Herky didn't have a ball turret.  Someone stuck in one died in a 17 when belly landed.  That's different.

Forgotten, but back in the game.  :)

not to nitpick, but wouldn't the high wing on the hercules make belly landing it significantly different than the b-17?

anyone know?

Bet that pilot didn't go to the BBS and whine about ditching on the field.:D

Thanks Dan for sharing.

well.....i landed a cessna with wheels down a few times and that was nerve racking and dangerous... :D

i only assumed what i stated above, but i dont think any could say belly landing a real B17 is a walk in the park. anything could go wrong if the pilot isnt on top form, surely?

Yeah, you cant tell the difference because those crazy c130 pilots never set it down soft anyway. I think they must have a running competition on who can slam it down hardest and get away with it.

That's actually ... quite horrifying if you think about it. Could the ball just not be jettisoned? Maybe they could drop him in the water... or slow down enough to drop him? Geeze. Belly landing while in the turret....
