conns on map outside radar
« on: September 18, 2007, 05:40:48 AM »
something id like to see is if a friendly seen a conn in the middle of the water then the conn shows up on the clipboard map, same for if radar is down in its covarage.

now this could be unfair on the conn if the friendly is afk or just dosent see the conn then he would be highlighted and he would have wasted his time. so what i was thinking if that u "tagged" him (like a check 6 call) then he would show up while he was within a 6k range of the friendly.be like the friendly calling a sighting report to HQ. the red dot woudnt move like it does in under radar covarage but would need to be "updated" every few mins to show the updated position of the conn.

if the friendly died then the red dot stays for a few mins then disapears from the last recorded position.

Or you could not tell a soul and keep the target all to yourself!  Seriously, I like the idea.  If radars down then let the pilots in the air be the eyes for the base.

Maybe even go a step further:

When you're able to ID it visually (i.e. within icon range), make it IDable on the map too. For example, a friendly AC spots a formation of bombers, he tags it and hits a transmit ID button. That way the red dot, which shows up on DAR as a small rectangle, becomes , for example a cross. When you hover your mouse on it, you get the reading, for example "B26". As soon as the friendly AC gets out of Icon range, the dot disappears when out of DAR, if inside it returns back to the small rectangle we have.

Even if that was not implemented, I love the initial idea, it would make scouting missions actually useful!

Or you could just actually use the radio channels, and report it with position as
"B26s - 11,12,4 - 15k - hdg W" like they used to:p

This is starting to sound a lot like spotting enemies on WW2 Online :lol . I like the idea of friendly aircrafts spotting the enemy outside the radar range, but I like the feature we have now. type in on country channel "Enemy 109 mission 10K, 4,5,3 heading to A14"

person A - "A14 is screwed"
person B - "I only gave you guys a 10min warning" :D

We already provide way more info via the clipboard map than was available in RL.

It is possible to set the radar in an arena numerous ways even to the extent of making all radar dots visible everywhere.

Auto highlighting icons on radar because they are in range of a freindly or marked (tagged) by a freindly is not available. Indeed we rely very much on the same lines of communication as were avaialble to a pilot inflight in WWII.

ie we talk to each other.

Further our world is divided into grids and within those grids we use a keypad method of identification.............so me even use keypad sub identification even further still.

However announcing to your side that there is a bogie in 14.10.7 (grid 14.10 in keypad 7) travelling SE will pretty much narrow stuff down.
