P-38J, 82nd FG - more images needed
« on: September 19, 2007, 03:08:40 PM »
Doing some background research for a possible skinning project.   Does anyone have access to more detailed photos and/or a profile of this aircraft?    It's Col Ben Mason's 38J, when he was either CO or XO of the 82nd (I think the "HB" indicated 2nd in command and "HA" was the CO, but not positive about that).   These guys were based in Italy through the end of the War.   If I'm lucky, somebody may even have images of a 38L from this group.

Thanks!

They oughta give you some kind of award, Guppy.   You are a skinner resource extraordinaire.

Now I know why I had that old version of Billy Boy saved with the file name "Paddy".   I think I've seen both these images before -  I'll definitely work on Paddy again.

Thanks for your help!

I am going to try to get more panel line resources too, to try to get closer to the real thing.   I think the latest ones I used on Baby Shoes were OK on the wings but probably inaccurate around the fuselage pod.

Here's another I'd love to do - not sure what squad within the 82nd, or if it's an L or J.   I think there are some skin stretching issues around the nose of our '38 model that make the checkerboard pattern problematic, though.
