Just got TrackIR
« on: September 24, 2007, 05:47:50 PM »
I just received the TrackIR Ultra and the first thing I did was take off the Pro Clip gadget. The software just goes nuts trying to use it. The hat clip is fine and seems to work but learning to look around the headrest seems nearly impossible. Sometimes I get lucky and the view ends up there but its not good enough as it is. I went through searching the forums and I found the profile Mace posted. For some reason I cant just save that as an *.xml file. So if anyone can suggest how to go about getting that fixed and how to get the rear view working I would appreciate it.

For me it's best to lean forward then look around for the back view.
One of the things I did cuase I'm a bit lazy, if still set my hat switch to NUMPAD 2 and saved the correct position. You can use thsi but the Tracker has to be off when you do, and that's what I have my over hat positions for.

This was a lot easier than it looked at first. Finally I figured out that copying the existing aces high profile and editing the curves for each axis was the best way to go. I found the same curves that Mace uses to be WAY too responsive. I also was forced to set up a button to shut off the tracker and another to center it. I sit in a swivel chair and just using rudders can cause the viewpoint to change and the gun sight pipper to move off screen. I still dont have the vector hardware working. Not sure what thats about. Maybe this weekend I can play with it some more.

Online and in combat I was happy to see I dont have to ever take my eyes off my target any more except to check six. I should have bought this a long time ago.

Aside from a a HOTAS system i find it is the best accessory for this game.  I have spent a lot of time tweaking it since i got mine and i cant fly without it now.  If you need any help or want to try using a different profile i'd be happy to send you mine.  As for the track-clip versus the hat clip, i found that the track-clip was far better and more responsive.
